Slightly urgent question about Gmail sent messages: can anyone help?

I am applying for a new job I am very keen on. Emailed my application last night from my gmail account. Oddly, the sent message appeared in Trash instead of the Sent folder. Apparently my settings changed somehow. But I Googled and this still means it would have gone through right? I don't want to resend and clog up the receiver's inbox. I wish I had attached a read receipt but I know some people don't like that.

Can you remove it from the trash and see where it goes..I've accidentally deleted emails before and when I've taken them out of the trash they go back to the folder they were in before.
Then you could see if it was in sent or not

It would be perfectly fine to ring the employer and ask them to confirm receipt as your email client is playing up.

Done this and it has appeared in Sent.
