Left (gas) heating on over night.

As an experiment I left my thermostat at 18 degrees last night, outside temperature was -4.

I live in a 2 up 2 down with two-storey rear addition. Normally at this time (6:45) my 'smart' meter shows 88p of usage, most of which is the daily charge (40p electricity, 26p gas), today it's £2.65

So I reckon it cost me £1.77 to heat my house for 6 1/2 hours, or 27p an hour.

It's not particularity energy efficient, with solid walls (party wall only 4.5 inches thick!) and some insulation in the loft. One of the bedrooms I have turned off the radiator and keep the door closed, that leaves 1 in the other bedroom, 1 in the bathroom and two downstairs.

I'm just sharing this in case it is useful to anyone.

I know it's the same with us. The whole 'it's cheaper to use the thermostat' conversation relies on having an amazingly well insulated home.

That is useful thanks. We're getting a smart meter fitted today so I'll try the same. I wonder if you will see lower use today because your home is already toasty warm.
