If you work in sales..

Do you enjoy it? Is it stressful? How did you end up there? What kind of person are you?

I desperately need a change and have a seen a car sales job. At the moment, I am open to anything, so I didn't swipe right past it for once.

In my current job, I've come across many salespeople - some I've really rated, others that I am still trying to avoid because they are pushy, or because I can sense the desperation in them and I feel guilty that I can't help them meet a target or whatever.

Anyway, interested to hear the views of people who have worked this kind of role.

My gut tells me I'm to shy, but as I say, considering things out with my norm right now.

Thanks.

I have been in sales for almost 30 years now and I’ve recruited, trained and managed plenty of Sales people too.
I love it - it’s hard and you need resilience and tenacity but you don’t necessarily have to be overconfident or extroverted. I have seen some very successful sales people who were quite quiet and thoughtful, you do need to believe in yourself though.
The best thing I can tell you is that have to listen to prospective customers not just talk, you can only sell to their needs.
A car is a piece of metal with a wheel in each corner - nobody wants one of those. People want a safe way to travel, a luxury status symbol, a cheap way to avoid public transport for example. So find out what people want and then show them how you can give it to them. You don’t have to be their best friend, you need to be professional and understand what they want/need and you do that by asking intelligent questions
Its not a job for everyone but for people who are good at it it’s great and can earn a good amount of money too
