Never wanted children, now after surgery maybe I do?

WHAT IS HAPPENING.

I have never wanted children, ever. It's never been for me and I have always been 100% certain of my decision.

I had surgery last week to remove several large ovarian cysts and all of a sudden, for the first time in my life, I think I feel a bit ... Broody?!

Anyone else ever experienced this before??

I guessing the surgery messed with your hormone levels somehow. Did they mention to expect any hormonal changes/surges?

VenusClapTrap · 08/12/2022 12:03

Not after surgery, but I always thought I didn’t want children - not a maternal bone in my body - and then I hit 35 and BANG. Hormones or something. Dunno. Had two in quick succession.

ChickyNuggies · 08/12/2022 12:06

No! There was no mention of any hormone changes!

On the bright side my husband is deployed until the middle of next year so I won't be making any rash decisions if it's just my hormones messing around!

How long does it take for hormones to balance after ovarian cyst removal?
A prospective study evaluating ovarian reserve after cystectomy for ovarian endometriosis revealed a temporary decreased serum AMH level, which reverted to normal within 12 months of follow-up.

From what I can see low AHM may be responsible for the broody feelings, it's the same thing that happens towards menopause, so your body is upping the 'have children before time runs out' shit.

Omg that makes perfect sense!!! How interesting, thanks for that info.

Scary to think we are so driven by levels of hormones that can be manipulated really 😯

It actually is disturbing what hormones can do.

I'm in peri and the hormone surges I'm getting have completely floored me in terms of how much a hormone surge can change you as a person for a short period of time.

Agreed. I literally feel an ache like I need to have a baby right now. A week ago I would rather have moved into a tent in a forest with no heating.

That is really scary to me!

A friend in her 40s told me she had the exact same! She rode out the feeling and was bloody thankful that she hadn't made such a huge decision based on a hormonal surge!!
