Anyone live in a carbon neutral home?

Hoping to move into a new development of 'zero carbon' homes soon. If you live in something like this, can you tell me what it's like? Does your home really generate all its own energy? If not, how much extra do you pay? I have 3 children so probably have fairly high energy usage. Just trying to manage my expectations of how much things are going to cost

I don’t but a friend does. There’s only her and Dh. They do still have pay energy bills but she reckons it’s half the price of normal. It’s a three bed large terrace with loads of solar panels, water recycling. It’s lovely and warm and she pays £70 a month
