Letting friend do up my garden...

This will either be "you've got a point" or "lol you absolute twat" but I suffer badly with anxiety so there it is. My friend is doing up my shithole of a garden next Spring, I'm paying him obviously but I'm pretty much giving him a couple of ideas about what I like and leaving him to it. He's not a qualified gardener but he has done his own and a couple of our mutual friends and they all look amazing so I know he's good. I've known him for over a decade and we're very good friends. He wants to take up my old paving slabs and replace fence panels... all fine with me. Other than that it will just be a few ornaments, maybe a brick built barbecue. The only thing that worries me is upsetting the foundations and ending up with a subsidence issue or some sort of insurance nightmare or something. Am I being too cautious? Is it okay for someone without qualifications to do up a garden?

It sounds fine to me, you're lucky to have a friend who will do it and has some gardening experience. I bet your garden will look lovely. Don't forget to take some before and after pics!

I don't see how foundations could be damaged by the work you've described.

Just agree the price first...

I think surely the only danger would be if he was ripping up or planting trees or something, right? Which he isn't. It's just a small garden with a few old slabs and a wheelie bin! Yes will agree price

Nothing he is talking about will effect your foundations (actually called footings) he would have to dig under your house to do this.
