Christmas Music In Shops

HotChoxs · 07/12/2022 19:36

Just doing my supermarket shop and observing quite a few stressed people walking around while 'simply having a wonderful christmas time' (one of the worst songs ever made) was blaring away.

Didn't seem like people were simply having a wonderful christmas time.

Does anyone enjoy christmas musis being played?

I was at the doctor's today in a packed waiting room, nearly everyone half keeling over or wheezing - to the sound of "it's the most wonderful time of the year".

Greenshake · 07/12/2022 20:00

It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t start in early November 😐

Precipice · 07/12/2022 20:01

Can't stand it. I actively avoid shops in December as much as possible to avoid being forcibly exposed to it.

Yes I enjoy it

newmum0604 · 07/12/2022 20:03

I love it!

PAFMO · 07/12/2022 20:04

Yes, I love it.

tedgran · 07/12/2022 20:09

Hate it, poor staff having to put up with it all day.

catsonahottinroof · 07/12/2022 20:09

I hate it, especially when it starts in November. If it was just a few tasteful ones interspersed with normal music throughout December it wouldn't be so bad. Was in Sainsbury's the other day and the worst song ever came on (never heard it before but it had a young American girl squawking horribly - it was horrendous).

megosaurusrex · 07/12/2022 20:10

Love it 😁 except that bloody Maria Carey one

Luellie · 07/12/2022 20:10

Aw I love it! It really cheers me up. I even loved it when I was younger working in a coffee shop where the same few Christmas songs played over and over all day 😁

catandcoffee · 07/12/2022 20:13

It's so annoying the same Christmas songs every year.

I'm going to start wearing headphones and listen to my own music whilst in a supermarket.

blueirises · 07/12/2022 20:31

I work in a shop. I HATE IT. Until last year we didn't have any music in the shop, and now... Mistletoe and Wine twice in two hours yesterday. Horrible covers of well-known Christmas classics too.

I just don't think I can do another Christmas in retail, it's driving me bonkers.

blueirises · 07/12/2022 20:35

And, and, I'm bloody 53. I've been hearing most of these bloody songs for SO LONG. I don't care if I never hear even the ones I quite like ever again. Bad enough in other shops, now it's in mine I feel... hunted.

ElfDragon · 07/12/2022 20:37

It makes me smile when I hear one of dd1’s favourites (she is 18, has SN, and loves Christmas music)

hearing ‘I want a hippopotamus for Christmas’ and remembering dd1 singing it very enthusiastically really cheered me up on a bad day

PeachyMama · 07/12/2022 20:38

I love it! Makes me feel so festive

You've had to put up with that Slade song for an awfully long time 😬

Haha was anyone getting into it? 🤕

I dont mind the music for a few days. Maybe the 10 days before Christmas.

But it started 1st December on my usual radio station. Pretty much just Christmas songs. I've had to chanhe the station I usually listen to, I could not handle weeks of the same music over and over.

Not Classic FM, by any chance? they start off with one carol an hour and then ramp it up. By 25th it's nothing else and it goes on until New Year.

ditherydotty · 07/12/2022 22:11

We need new Christmas songs, I don't like them when it's blaring out, I must be getting older as loved it when I was younger

ShesThunderstorms · 07/12/2022 22:16

I absolutely love it!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/12/2022 23:19

With one or two exceptions (Wham’s Last Christmas is one) the only Christmas music I really like is proper carols, sung by proper choirs. I hate it when any lovely traditional carol is slaughtered by a pop singer, all breathy or screechy, trying to put ‘expression’ into it - just don’t! - and the ‘new arrangement’ has totally buggered it up anyway.

Oioicaptain · 07/12/2022 23:25

I can't stand it. It's like ground hog day. Same music every year. To make it worse, one song makes me feel physically sick due to an awful memory associated with it. I try and get all my Xmas shopping done in advance or online before the music starts.

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 07/12/2022 23:26

I love it. The louder the better
Last week about 9pm i popped to shop. It was much louder than normal, quiter customer wise.
Passed a few humming and singing along.

Normally i rush in and out. But it was so nice i mooched around longer. And purchased more than i intended that night but was planning to before xmas anyway but hadn't been in the mood.

Foxgluv · 08/12/2022 00:00

I love it. It's only one month out of the year. Just about everywhere, every radio station has the same repetition of songs they play day in, day out for months on end.
