Amazon - probably silly question

I set up two factor authentification on Amazon thinking it would text me to confirm making a purchase.

but it seems it only does it for log in? Have I set it up wrongly?

I think they turn those notifications off at Christmas to try & help stop surprises being spoiled if someone sees the messages.

I think it is just at log in or if you use a different device to buy stuff, that is what happens with my Next account anyway, it's not with every purchase.

Its only when I log on. Not seen it for purchases

I have had a couple of security issues this week (with other companies) so will have to make sure I log out every time to be on the safe side.
