Heating oil government support

Can anyone shed any light on this? I gather there's meant to be either a £100 or £200 one off payment for those of us on heating oil - Hunt said something about it in the budget but since then, radio silence. Has it been quietly dropped or does anyone know what the plans are for this?

My understanding is that it's for anyone without mains gas, so everyone in your area would be eligible, whether or not they actually use heating oil.

Thanks, that makes sense from a practical point of view.

Crazy... no money for extra pay but will give wealthy households £200.

Not all off grid are wealthy of course but down here most are.

If you're on gas you've already had support through the £400 payment. Oil users have seen the cost of oil increase from 18p per litre at its low to over £1 a litre at its peak. Using around 3000 litres of oil a year, that's pretty costly and there's no cap or control at all on heating oil prices, we're at the mercy of the market. Plenty of people in rural areas use oil and are by no means rich. We've had no support at all as we don't have a domestic energy supply (farm, commercial contract). This paltry £200 will be the only support we get unless we can somehow get the electricity one too through other means.

Same with a lot of non means tested benefits though.
Should probably start reviewing the pensioner winter fuel allowance, attendance allowance, prescriptions, etc etc for the same reason.

Martin Lewis was talking about this . He went to number 11. Check his FB page

@Alexandra2001 why are off gas grid homes wealthy? Round by me no one has gas. That's all Homes from tiny studio flats to big 5 bed houses. Your gas has been capped by the government - who are paying the gas companies the difference in price. YOU don't see the money, but your gas is cheaper.

Oil and LPG has not had that cap. So we get £200 to help. Last year to fill the oil tank it cost £380. Last week it cost £670 for the same amount.

I'm not on gas! or oil, i have wood burner.

... & i'm not against support for poorer non gas households but i do get pee'd off seeing 100s of millions indeed billions given in energy support for the wealthy..... do you think the likes of Sunak or Zahawi should get subsidised electricity and if he isn't on gas, get £200 ?

If we handed out money more carefully, we d have more to give to the less well off.

There are 4m properties off grid, this scheme will cost 800m and thats without the cost of the roll out.

poshme · 22/12/2022 19:50

That's FAR less than the subsidies being given to gas grid properties.

Most homes who are on gas are being subsidised more than £200.

Not all off grid are wealthy of course but down here most are.

Half of Northern Ireland is on oil, including many many housing executive properties who have no alternative form of heat other than an electric fire in their living rooms.

Not at all wealthy.

As i said, i don't agree with that either.

Support should be targeted.. failure to do so is bankrupting the country (if such a thing were possible)

Support should be given to those that need it, not the wealthy... 2.4m millionaires in the UK... why are we giving tax payers money to them?
