We have 2.

A washing up bowl bought 7 years ago for 3 quid. Part of it’s melted. It’s bleached and cleaned properly every week. The other day Dh suggested we buy a new one. We were both staggered by it😲

A shit mirror we took from Dmil house when she died. We painted the mahogany frame white. But it looks shit. You can see the mahogany. It’s just shit. And l like my interiors. But this peiceof shit hangs there. I suggested we buy a new one tonight. Again we were shocked that we hadn’t thought of it before.

A plastic seive that’s melted and broken . Yet we continue to use it🤷🏼‍♀️

The handle of one of the most-used kitchen drawers fell off - the screw holes had become too big. For over a year, in order to open that drawer you have to open the one above or below and sort of reach in behind and flick the broken drawer. It is a very uncomfortable movement. We use the drawer maybe 20 times a day.

You can repair this easily in so many ways. Wood filler is easiest .

Cullander With a missing handle

Maybe @3peassuit should send her toaster to @SomethingNastyInTheBallPool’s dad - he could probably use the same baking potato to hold down the toaster button and the kettle button!

A new razor

The old one just glided over my leg stubble, leaving it almost completely unscathed

OnlyTheBravest · 06/12/2022 23:04

Both my laundry dosing balls have split, but I enjoy the game of how much I can I fit in before the inevitable leak.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 06/12/2022 23:06

I have a drawer full of beautiful unstained lovely tea towels. I however use the same five, knackered, old, stained ones on rotation.

I also have a plastic measuring jug with no markings, 1/3 of a handle, tomato stains and a partially melted rim. It would probably cost me about £1.99 to replace, however I have put up with this sad excuse of jug for at least 3 years.

Friendofdennis · 06/12/2022 23:06

the microwave. I have to hold the door shut for the duration of the warming up. The gas hob only works with a lighter

goingback · 06/12/2022 23:07

14 inch bedroom tv with built in video player, use it on sick days and always say that i need to get a new tv, and never do, also a coat that is over 20 years old and the pockets all have holes that i have to rummage in to retrieve my keys.

BasicBiscuit · 06/12/2022 23:09

The knob/handle on the lid of my steamer pan detached itself about eight years ago, so you can only cook anything in it if you stuff the resultant hole in the top with a twist of kitchen roll, otherwise all the steam ecapes. One of the handles on the side came off at some point in the last decade too, so you have to sort of hang on to the remaining handle and clamp a bunched up tea towel against the other side when precariously carrying it over to the sink to drain.

The bloody thing cost less than a tenner in Woolworths in 1998. What the fuck is wrong with me?

bumblebeemumma · 06/12/2022 23:14

My bathroom light. The pull cord snapped about 3 years ago so the only way to switch the light on or off is to carry a step ladder into the tiny bathroom, climb up to flick the switch on, then move the ladder back to the landing as the bathroom is too small to leave it in there. Will get round to sorting it one day...

NecklessMumster · 06/12/2022 23:14

Mop bucket. Manky and lost its handle.

IClaudine · 06/12/2022 23:15

My 40 year old kitchen that was bodged handmade by the previous owner of the house. It is as tatty looking as anything, but actually far more solid than a lot of modern kitchens. We moved here 5 years ago, have money saved for a new kitchen but somehow keep putting it off...

FrightfullyFreezy · 06/12/2022 23:16

We had a washer for years that used to bounce around the kitchen on its final spin. Also, its door didn't look so my step-dad fixed it - it had a long screw thing that you had to bolt closed as tight as possible before using it.

In our house, it's the kitchen door handle that only catches if you shut it just so.

Itssooooocold · 06/12/2022 23:18

I have a kitchen brush that is 25 years old, it has about 3 bristles left on it max but I still maintain there's life in it yet....

The NHS.
😂🤔

This about a million times.

Please please someone have the tits/balls to overhaul it.

TheresNoPiccalilliInThisJar · 06/12/2022 23:19

The yale lock on the front door. Dh would rather give a very detailed demonstration on how to turn the key so it catches right rather than replace the fucking thing. I've started walking round the back to get in now as he doesn't give you a chance to open the door if he's in and hears you fumbling with the keys. He's lovely in every other way.

Remote control whose back falls off and batteries fall out all the time. No idea why I don’t get another.

a spatula with half a handle.

Every one if our remote back are held on with selotape.
It makes battery changing a bitch.

IClaudine · 06/12/2022 23:21

I love this thread. I thought everyone else except me had instagram perfect type homes.

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 06/12/2022 23:21

I have two ancient pairs of pyjama bottoms which have no elastic left on the waistbands. They’ve had elastic bands holding bunches of fabric to make them small enough to wear for about five years

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 06/12/2022 23:25

Is it just me who feels bad for my old pyjamas when I buy a new pair? Half my PJs are older than my kids! I can’t bring myself to chuck them out 😂

NatalieIsFreezing · 06/12/2022 23:26

Dyson handheld vacuum. It's shit and pisses me off every time I have to use it, which is often, as dc somehow crunch Rice Pops into the floor most mornings.

It was too expensive though so I need to keep it another year or so before justifying a new one!

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2022 23:26

Growing up we had a serving dish that came out every Sunday to hold the vegetables with our roast. It was called The Stupid Dish by everyone because it was impossible to spoon out vegetables from it without something spilling over the side. Despite being unfit for purpose and universally hated, The Stupid Dish was never binned until my mother died and there were no further Sunday roasts.

They're about 50p in Wilko. DH went through a phase of buying them as 'you can never have too many jugs and they're so cheap'. I don't know how many way have now. More than 10.

The omelette going into the bin made me laugh. As did the baking potato and kettle.

Our kitchen cupboard door handles. All in various states of slow disrepair.
We're planning to rip it all out in the next year so it's false economy to sort them. That and we're lazy.
We did finally replace the toaster that only toasted 2 out of 4 slots recently though. Only put up with it for about 3 years.

kateandme · 06/12/2022 23:26

A teddy I was given on my christening.poor thing.

Towels.stolen. accidently put in suitcase 40 years ago when hotels weren't so " on it" .but hotels have the ultimate in big white towels.i do think places have caught on now and they sell oversized(normal) sized but it had been the way for a while, that large towels barely covered one 3rd of a body and hotel ones enveloped you. Still got them.they are almost see through!

Yes and the older ones just so soft!
