Japanese Sponge Cake

Does anyone know if one of these will take the weight of fondant icing? I've not made one before and it's for a birthday cake that will be covered in fondant.

If you've never made it before then I hope you're doing a trial run first.
I've only made it twice but first time it was more like a rubbery sponge than a cake.
I'm not sure it would hold the weight of fondant but it was a while ago that I made them ( in lockdown 1) so could be wrong
