Where have all the hangover cures gone?

supernovachampagne · 06/12/2022 14:18

In September I went to a birthday party and drank so much I thought I was dying. A friend called by the house and brought me a tesco version of "resolve" - a combination of rehydration salts/antacid and paracetamol in one fizzy slightly unpleasant tasting drink
Anyway I am trying to buy this now and I can't find any.
No alka seltzer
No Resolve
No supermarket/chemist own brand
Have they been discontinued? what's going on?

A run nye?! A run?! What is this witchcraft?

I'm very sorry to tell you but it is by far the best hangover the is and then when you nap on the sofa in the afternoon you can pretend you're recovering from the run.

mac1974 · 06/12/2022 18:46

Ribena. It's the only thing I want after alcohol.

Findyourneutralspace · 06/12/2022 18:49

State of the nation has led to increased demand for hangover cures. Sobriety sucks right now.

magicalorange · 06/12/2022 18:50

This stuff is miraculous but expensive

Oh god but the really bad hangovers mean I can't swallow or stomach anything - those people saying a full english breakfast have clearly never had a hangover 😁. I'm talking unable to move in bed - not even a slight movement of head or there will be projectile vomit.. Usually lasts a good 24 hours and don't feel right u til day 4. Not had one like that for a few years now thank god.
If it's a mild to moderate hangover, espresso, toast and seville marmalade followed by coke and salt and vinegar squares or discos.

JMAngel1 · 06/12/2022 18:59

A run???? Sweet jesus, you have never drank!!

I thought that 😂 it's all I can do to down a tin of coke with a bad hangover.

Even booking a just eat is exhausting.

Hangover cures are not published anymore because Nosecco, 0% beer and wine, Tanqueray zero gin etc. are the drinks du jour.

Alcohol is out of fashion and it's hip to be a soberista. Coke of the snort variety and other Class A's are ok though to make up for keeping up with the in crowd and avoiding alcohol.

"I don't drink" is the new fitness fad. You just have to look at all the threads on here asking if a thimble of 5% Lambrusco will lead to alcoholism if drunk more than twice a week!

Anyway, the best cure for a hangover is the one you discover works best for you.

peridito · 06/12/2022 19:59

@TicTacFrenzy · -There's a shortage of rehydration stuff everywhere.

Chemist I was in last week was handing out printed sheets with directions on how to make rehydration solution.Said they'd not been able to get ready made stuff for weeks .

Meseekslookatme · 06/12/2022 20:04

Dioralyte is amazing
If not, Phizz (a bit like berocca but with hydration bits and bobs)

ShinyPikachu · 06/12/2022 20:07

I swear by a few small slices of watermelon first thing. Pretty tasteless but gives a bit of vitamin C without the acidic hit you get with citrus or effervescent tablets. Followed by a glass of water beside the bed after I take some paracetamol and rest until that's started to kick in.

Then a bottle of Irn Bru 1901 as that one isn't full of sweeteners like the other Irn Brus now.

Bacon roll when you're ok to eat something bigger. Another bottle of Irn Bru after sending a teenager to the shop if it's a really bad one. BlushGrin

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 06/12/2022 20:20

JMAngel1 I last had a hangover like that 3 years ago after a pub lock in. Trying to keep up with the village pub Landlord & Lady proved a near fatal mistake. The next day I had to lie as though I’d been in an accident, completely still, head straight. I knew it was bad when the thought of my usual hangover curry takeaway made me gag.

AndrewGloubermanisaperv · 06/12/2022 20:26

Mojoj · 06/12/2022 17:58

Irn bru, roll and square slice with tattie scone and brown sauce. More Irn Bru. Paracetamol. Netflix and comfy couch. And no weans - this part is very important!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ahhh the good old Scottish cure, you cannae beat it 🤪

Oh yes I have! I started drinking whisky with friends at my kitchen table at 6pm Saturday night, then we went to the pub, then dancing. Rolled in at 1:30 (when my

young adult sons were fast asleep). Some details very sketchy and the video evidence very funny/cringey.

8:45 Sunday all but one of us turned up for our 10 mile run, followed by fry up in the pub

I'll admit I didn't see too much of the afternoon, but that was because I was tired more than suffering

Mamette · 06/12/2022 21:08

Lucozade used to be my thing and I’d have them ready in the fridge but it is shit now 😭

Eat shit lay on the sofa and hate myself whilst wondering if I said anything to embarrass myself

yep, every word of this

Moon22 · 06/12/2022 21:16

I recommend a dioralyte (ideally one before bed if you can and one on morning of hangover,) with 2 paracetemol.. after that, you want to go for a big poo and then a lovely hot shower- essential to wash and dry hair- followed by 2 cans of full fat coke and 2 sausage rolls (must be greasy sausage rolls, not the flaky kind,)

HormonalMessEatingChocolate · 06/12/2022 21:28

Does milk thistle really help prevent a hangover? I thought it was more just about protecting the liver... a little.

A mix of paracetamol and ibuprofen, full fat coke and sausage or bacon roll (white) That's on a mild to moderate hangover though. A bad hangover - pft I just lie in bed, hating myself, feeling like I can't move my head or blink. Can't face anything. Even water.

Lollypop701 · 06/12/2022 23:06

Lying in bed with a stomach full of wild horses doing the fandango, waiting to vomit (because making myself sick doesn’t work) … can’t eat or sleep and have hangover fear. There a LOT to be said for sobriety, just never managed it myself 🙈😂

anyway, which anti sickness drug is best please?

Rolypolyfishheads · 06/12/2022 23:10

I've found this too OP, it's really pissing me off. I find these are the best thing for a sore throat so I really need them back in my life!

WeAreTheHeroes · 06/12/2022 23:11

There have been shortages of Alka Seltzer this year, especially the XS version. It was out of stock in July and August and I found it again in mid September. Since November it's been steadily in stock but sometimes sold out in some places.

I get lots of migraines and find it really useful for taking the edge off the headache whilst my migraine meds kick in.

nothingmuchaboutjerry · 06/12/2022 23:21

Anti sickness tablets and lucosade for me. My hangovers are REALLY bad, my stomach cannot tolerate acid so I really should stay away from the booze but the lure of Smirnoff ice after 8 pints of fruit cider just gets to me every time. Before anti sickness I'd literally spend all day vomiting. Now I can manage something to eat. Luckily going out-out is very rare and I have perhaps 3/4 hangovers a year.

DumpedByText · 07/12/2022 00:03

I got some in Asda, they are a miracle. I was hanging one morning, couldn't move I felt so ill. Forced one down next to the loo in case I vomited and I was cured 20 minutes later!

I'm a fan of cyclisine but it's px only,
You can get Buccastem which is dissolvable and it does taste awful but you put it in your lip
Also makes you drowsy and helps you to sleep off the fear
That is sold for people with "migraines" it's in a small white and purple box behind the counter
Do not tell them it's for a hangover or sickness

Tell them it's for migraine and vomiting in your husband Wink

Same here @JMAngel1 I'm reading about fry up hangover cures wondering what sort of hangover these posters are talking about, because when I have one there's no way I could eat that. I'm so nauseous when I have a hangover I can't even keep a cup of tea down, and can only very slowly sip water. We're not talking slightly groggy, just need to take it easy for a couple of hours here, I'm talking don't move or put anything in my stomach as I'll vom, and don't even start feeling better until 5pm 🤮

Ringmaster27 · 07/12/2022 17:53

Wake up.
Neck pint of water.
Puke.
More water, followed by something greasy and carbohydrate loaded.
2 paracetamol + 2 ibuprofen and I’m grand 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
