Anyone up? Horrific sleep!

asblackasyoursoul · 06/12/2022 03:29

Went to sleep last night 2030 (I know, I was so exhausted though!). Woke up 2350 briefly, off back to sleep. Have now been awake since 0130. My eyes are tired but my mind is fully awake.

I have to be up for work at 0530 and strongly debating just staying up?! I’ve been trying to get back to sleep for ages but it’s not happening!

This always seems to happen to me - if I go to bed anytime before about 2300 then I wake up constantly during the night - however if I go to bed a bit later I sleep straight through. Anyone know why?

Sorry this isn’t the most exciting topic! But would it be foolish of me to stay up, get myself a lovely coffee, make a great breakfast and enjoy some time to myself before my 12 hour shift? Or is this terrible and I should seek out every scrap of sleep I can get? 😁

I understand exactly where you are and it's tough when your brain is whirring even when you know you're so tired. One thing I try when I'm like that is to think of something restful and blank out everything else. I also think about my breathing. Eg I imagine I'm standing in the sea up to my waist. I think about small waves rolling towards me and what that feels like. Sometimes it works sometimes it takes a while. Eventually I drop off. Hope you get to sleep soon.

Insaneinthemembraneee · 06/12/2022 03:44

I've done what you are thinking and made myself a nice strong coffee, no point in trying to force a sleep I know isn't happening 😫 when the alarm would be going off soon anyway.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 06/12/2022 03:47

I haven’t been to sleep yet …. Still lying here wide awake.

fucking insomnia

It’s frustrating isn’t it? I wake up at 3 or 4 am all the time with a busy head. Bloody menopause. The Calm app is pretty good though; I generally pop on a sleep story and am off back to sleep pretty quickly.

asblackasyoursoul · 06/12/2022 03:47

I have tried the whole thinking of peaceful things etc and blanking everything out but it’s not happening! What’s also not helping is that I’m starting to feel quite hungry and dreaming of a cooked breakfast I normally wouldn’t have time for!
But I know the right thing is to sleep…. Argh!!

Me 🙋‍♀️
I worked a Night Shift Friday (covering sickness) and Sunday night (called at 1830 to start at 2000 someone else sick) I'm working tomorrow starting at 0730 but my two little DC have been up coughing several times.
I finish at 1430, not sure if DH will take the day off to look after little one or what will happen. I feel horrific really, but I will survive.

camdenn · 06/12/2022 03:51

Are we the same person??? Because that sleeping pattern mirrors mine tonight

TiredRetired · 06/12/2022 03:51

I’m awake. Shocking cold. Coughing and snottiness is keeping me awake

vinoandbrie · 06/12/2022 03:52

I’m awake. My mind is racing, full of worry and stress.

Msgrieves · 06/12/2022 03:56

So fucking sick of seeing 3am one way or the other aaagh

asblackasyoursoul · 06/12/2022 03:58

Lovemeloveme I know what you mean, I’m just coming off night shifts myself and it really doesn’t help your sleep cycle does it! I hope everything goes well tomorrow. It’s just awful isn’t it!

camdenn that is very odd! Are you also to be up for work?

tiredandretired oh god there’s nothing bloody worse is there! I do hope you manage some sleep soon.

vinoandbrie sorry to hear that, maybe you want to have a chat about what’s on your mind?

I’m to get up in an hour and a half. I strongly suspect that if and when I did get to sleep it would be approximately 3 minutes before my alarm goes off.

Im getting up and making breakfast. Avacado on toast with fried tomato and a fried egg 🤤 normally in the mornings I’m lucky to have time to shove some buttered toast down my face!

Being unable to sleep despite being tired is absolute torture.
I'm currently torturing myself from worry - I got a positive pregnancy test yesterday and I'm absolutely shitting myself as Ive had a few early losses.....I'm expecting to bleed/cramp any moment and driving myself insane with worry.

I can keep busy for most of the day but sleep would at least give me the comfort of switch off my mind and the worry....but no such luck!

vinoandbrie · 06/12/2022 04:06

It’s my DD with SEN. School are being hateful to her, I can’t stand it, I love her so much and they’re destroying her. She’s only eight.

violetcuriosity · 06/12/2022 04:06

Up here too... 29 weeks pregnant and got horrendous insomnia. If I wake up around 2am I can't go back to sleep ☹️

Ohhh I'm up breastfeeding my 3 month old and now dreaming of avocado on toast with a bit of black pepper and balsamic vinegar 🤤thanks OP 😂

I used to work nights and that's what I would have at work before making the journey home!

Instead, I'm sleep deprived on a whole other level and now both my son and husband are snoring away and I'm still awake an hour later.

Always the way though, that your alarm will wake you up after 5 mins sleep and you'll feel bloody awful (sorry!). When I didn't work for the NHS and I'd been up with our puppy in the night, I would work through the night (worked with overseas contracts) and claim my hours the next day and sleeeeep.

Hope you get a bit of refreshing sleep!

Glorieta · 06/12/2022 04:16

Dc has just woken me coughing but refusing a drink of water.
The house is freezing and I've walked on the cold floor in my bare feet so feeling chilled.

I need to get up at 7 so not as bad as op but it will take forever for me to settle again.

And I've just remembered I need to bting the milk in front the doorstep, move the bloody elf before he wakes up and iron my work clothes so I may as well stay up now for a while

camdenn · 06/12/2022 04:19

Yes, I need to be at work for 9am. Could possibly try to sleep then lie in until 8 latest. But I think I’m gonna stay up and order in breakfast at 6/7.

Sleeping too early is the worst but at least we’ve had some sleep tonight !

sashh · 06/12/2022 04:21

Morning all

Theredjellybean · 06/12/2022 04:25

I've had precisely 3.5 hrs sleep and now awake but tired.
Worried about my DD who is having medical tests and I'm sure it's her anorexia back/relapsing...but no evidence and I just don't what to do anymore.
Also got horrendously busy three days ahead.

Thighdentitycrisis · 06/12/2022 04:25

There’s a very big moon out, that impacts my sleep. Been awake for an hour and just finished tea and toast in bed, grrrr

asblackasyoursoul · 06/12/2022 04:48

Sounds like a few of you are going through a lot at the moment 😔 I hope you can take comfort in this thread and that there are other people up, too. Isn’t there a thread on mumsnet somewhere called the nightshift or similar? Haven’t seen it in a while!
Also to provide a vital update: I’ve got breakfast! Really feeling as though I will regret getting up this early in a few hours… but I wasn’t sleeping anyway!

Been up since 3am due to 4 year old DD kicking me in her sleep. Swapped with husband but couldn't get back off. Then foolishly watched My Dead Body on channel 4 - had me howling my eyes out.
So emotional, pre menstrual, peri menstrual and so bloody tired.
What did you have for breakfast op?

Augend23 · 06/12/2022 04:55

I'm also up.

Have to be up at 5 for work but being resting with my eyes closed since 3. Normally 4am is my worst "early waking" but been seeing more and more of the 3s recently.
