Is it a load of bollocks? Or is there something to it?

Largely a load of bollocks. There might be a small 'thinking positively' benefit - if you are expecting something to happen, you might be more likely to look for it in unexpected places and therefore find it, but I don't think it goes beyond that - there's no supernatural effect.

That's like asking if Father Xmas is real...
