ADHD Meds Help

Hi - I would be so grateful if anybody could help me with some questions I have on ADHD meds for my son. He is 21 and had recently been diagnosed with ADHD. He was already diagnosed with dyslexia and has had issues with anxiety. He began trying medication a few weeks ago and started on Ritalin. He saw great results with this, but developed skin tingling/prickling so was told to stop. He then tried a non-stimulant medication (not sure which one) but developed chest pain so had to stop that. He then tried Elvanse, and again he saw great results, but again, experienced skin tingling/prickling so again had to stop.

I have read lots of information and can't find any reference to this being a side-effect of Elvanse, so am wondering whether he is imagining it. He is very suggestible and is known to diagnose himself with all sorts after researching various symptoms online. I don't doubt that he is experiencing the symptom, but do wonder whether it is psychosomatic. My questions are:

  • has anybody ever experienced this side effect with Elvanse?
  • if so, did it go away in time?
  • does anybody know whether this would be a dangerous side-effect?

His blood pressure has been normal throughout. He is really upset to have to stop taking another drug that showed so much promise and I'm just really scrabbling around trying to find anything to help him.

Thanks so much for any insight anyone can offer - I really appreciate it.

Personally speaking, dry mouth and not sleeping well, but with anxiety that can keep you up anyway. The prescriber can advise and it could affect him differently, I hope he feels much calmer and organised soon. Loop earplugs are a help too x
