Real Xmas tree with stiff branches

So we’ve always had a real tree, Nordman - apart from a couple of yrs when DC were tiny.

Had a real one again in 2020 and it was sh*t. Branches super soft and and we could only use about a 1/3 of our decorations in random places where branches would hold actually hold.

We were away last yr so didn’t have one, just gone to look at somewhere with both Fraser and Nordman firs and they’re all the same again. Soft, floppy. No way would they hold decorations or even lights. Can’t ever remember having this problem before.

what does everyone else do, what’s the secret??

You could try a Picea Glauca instead.

I got a cheap £20 one from Asda this year and it’s fairly stiff, I have some big glass baubles on mine , think the size of a donut. It actually feels stiffer than previous years. It has been sat in water for two days, maybe hydration makes a difference?

I thought the same this year. The top half of my tree has stiff branches but the ones at the bottom are very floppy. I have managed to hand decorations on them but I come down every morning to see that some have fallen off.
