Last night there was an accident in my living room where a candle that had been burning for a while was knocked over.
The wax landed on the dog's back and on the carpet. (Dog not hurt)
How do I safely and kindly as in the dog's case - remove the wax from both please ?
I tried picking it off last night but it is greasy.

Don't panic! Kitchen roll is the answer - put it on the carpet & iron it. The kitchen roll absorbs it all.
NB - do NOT assume that tissues perform the same task if you run out of kitchen roll.. :-0 I know this from experience..
NB again - don't iron the dog.. ;-)

Old fashioned brown paper under the iron is good too (not on the dog tho!)

ladymactíre · 05/12/2022 11:39

from the carpet with a newspaper page and an iron. Should be dry by now, so scrape off as much as you can. Put the newspaper on top, heat the iron, and iron the area. The wax will melt and be absorbed by the newspaper.
From the dog, I don't know

HumourReplacementTherapy · 05/12/2022 11:43

It will depend what your carpet is made of so you're best to just look it up yourself to ge sure.
Re the dog. Rub an ice cube on the fur and pick it off. (Obviously depends on temperament of ddog) Or just snip it off if it's only a bit.

Use oil to soften the wax on the dog... olive oil or vaseline, massage it in and then warm water with lots of shampoo, and patience.

No real advice here. But I sympathise. I once blew out a candle, not realising there was loads of melted wax in it and it went everywhere, including my hair and eyelashes. Hope the dog's ok.

Heat up the wax on dog with hairdryer and blot with kitchen paper 😊

That would make it a hot dog …… i’ll get my coat 😳

So I did the paper and iron thing on the carpet and it works !

The dog however is a work in progress. There is just one large smudge on her back which does not affect her in the slightest. She still greedy and farty and attacks the letterbox when anything comes through it so situation normal :)

What type of dog do you have?

We have a Shih Tzu so I’d probably just trim the hair (none shedding and her hair grows very quickly!)
