Tell me one of your quirks...

My friends think I'm an absolute weirdo because I have a phobia of buttons. Well, it's not really a fear, they just absolutely disgust me. I cannot stand to see one and have to leave the room if there's one on the floor! I have no idea where this comes from! It's really bizarre. Is there anyone that has anything about them that's equally as weird? 😂

So glad I've found someone who thinks the same! 😂

I love buttons!!

I can't stand slugs. I know most people find them disgusting, but I can't look at them, just had a shiver writing this! If I stand on one I scream jump and feel like scrubbing myself.

Git goosebumps now 😖

*got

All buttons or only loose/unattached buttons?

LittleAlishas · 04/12/2022 23:46

Oh that's interesting!! The first quirk that comes to mind is that I have sugar in tea but not in coffee. I've only met one other person who does the same, so hopefully that counts for this thread 😅

Loose/unattached ones. I can just about tolerate them on clothes.

I know two other people with a button phobia/disgust of buttons. Apparently, it's relatively common.

My theory is that it could be related to trypophobia (fear of holes) because of the holes where the thread goes...

LittleAlishas · 04/12/2022 23:49

I have an extra tooth as well, come to think of it haha! But no unusual phobias, or so I think...

SignOnTheWindow · 04/12/2022 23:49

My quirk is that I like to sleep in cardboard boxes.

You could be on to something there because I don't mind buttons with no holes!

Oh I am just weird in general, I say lines from movies on a regular (fitting) basis & no one understands them except my husband who laughs.

I’m the opposite, I have sugar and milk in my coffee but never in my tea

determinedtomakethiswork · 05/12/2022 00:03

I can't bear wet teabags. The thought of drinking from a mug with one floating in it makes me feel ill.

elp30 · 05/12/2022 01:08

I have a mild form of trypophobia (discomfort with holes/patterns with holes). Ugh.

I also cannot stand the sensation of rubbing cotton balls. I feel it in my teeth and it makes me shudder. I have no idea why.

Are you a cat?

sophieable · 05/12/2022 01:30

I absolutely hate buttons they make me vom! It's the way they rub against fabric to fasten them that makes me feel so disgusted! Also cotton ewww just the thought makes me itch and grit my teeth

catzrulz · 05/12/2022 01:37

Ice lolly sticks! If I've got one it needs to be wrapped in kitchen towel before I hold it, and I can't eat the ice cream near the stick.
Thinking about them makes my mouth water, and not in a good way 🤮

mackthepony · 05/12/2022 01:40

Yeah I'm not keen on holes. Crumpets, pomegranates etc.

My first boyfriend was a mechanic at a Mercedes garage during the early 1980s ana he had a phobia about buttons.

He said it stemmed from being an infant in a high chair and wearing a bodysuit with buttons down the front and being fed runny boiled egg and the egg dripping on to the buttons!

Anyway, he did his best to avoid wearing formal shirts as much as possible.

One day at work a large van came in and it didn’t have any sign writing in the sides to indicate any kind of business.

To Roy’s horror as he opened the rear door the interior of the van was decked out in buttons! Buttons in clear boxes and buttons hanging down in strips!

The van belonged to the ‘Button Man’ who toured the local markets!

He swapped jobs with another mechanic!!

Some people laughed at him but a phobia is a phobia no matter what it is you are terrified of!

I

I despise the sound of metal against metal. The cutlery drawer makes me want to vomit, pots and pans being put away, again makes me want to puke. I've been this way for 40+ years. At my house I have the cutlery with the covered ends to reduce the sound, where I'm currently staying, all metal and I literally have to put a finger in one ear, shoulder up to the other while I am washing and wiping up, it's a whole ordeal.

Fraaahnces · 05/12/2022 01:54

I absolutely hate the feeling of cardboard. Gives me the shudders. No idea why or where it came from. My mum always hated furry things like velvet, peaches and animals. I could never understand that at all. I absolutely love all of them. (Except rodents which absolutely terrify me thanks to being in a rat plague when I was little and being bitten by hundreds of the bastards and needing lots of shots afterwards.)

OlleOskiFelle · 05/12/2022 01:54

Nothing buttony, but I always read recipes when I eat, like every time.
It's just a weird compulsion.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/12/2022 02:08

@LittleAlishas you are the only other person I know apart from me that has sugar in their tea but not in their coffee

I don't have an extra tooth but do have talon cusps on the back of some of my teeth (extra bits of tooth)

Ponders if there is a connection between extra bits of teeth & no sugar in coffee but sugar in tea? 🤔😂
