Best supermarket delivery ?

Peedoffo · 04/12/2022 23:25

I'm recovering from an op so I'm reliant on supermarket delivery. I normally use smartshop with Sainsbury's and their smart prices. I don't really like Sainsbury's online as I get a lot of subs , short dated food. Which the best for delivery ?

Iv tried them all and generally find tesco and ocado to be the best in terms of dates

MugginsOverEre · 04/12/2022 23:30

Tesco for me all the way. Very friendly drivers too. Only ever had one grump out of a good 20+ delivery people.

purpleme12 · 04/12/2022 23:31

Asda

JohnsShirt · 04/12/2022 23:32

I generally use Asda as the cheapest and have had no problems over 5 years.
Also tried Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury's, no Ocado/Waitrose here.

SpinningFloppa · 04/12/2022 23:34

Also get a lot of subs with Sainsbury’s prefer Tesco

Tesco aren't the best for quality but they are pretty good at delivery.

They have a clear app and ordering system (not as good as Asda).

They do really good substitutes. They won't ever leave you without and you'll get the closest item available even if it's expensive. You are not charged more.

Other delivery supermarkets just tell you at the door that that item wasn't available leaving you with gaps in your shopping.

So I can rely on Tesco to deliver on time, and I know that what I receive is more or less what I've ordered.

Never had a problem with Asda in five years but maybe I've just been lucky. I get a delivery once a week.

Really? Tescos often tells me items weren’t available like washing up liquid (as if there was no substitute 😏)

I do think it depends on your local stores. Here it's def Tesco. Asda and Morrisons aren't great, too many subs.

ReviewingTheSituation · 05/12/2022 08:17

Ocado has the best dates (everything comes from warehouses so it cuts out the middle step of sitting in a store). I can't remember the last time I had a substitution or missing item. Deliveries always on time (sometimes early but they ring to check). The app is great too.
I miss the Waitrose partnership, but the Ocado own label stuff is good, so I get that mainly.

DandelionPockets · 05/12/2022 08:17

Ocado - quality/dates are good and hardly ever get subs.

This but for us it's Sainsbury’s. Tesco is shocking even in store, DH went yesterday and pretty much all the meat was dated yesterday or today. He claims he did look for long dates.

Ariela · 05/12/2022 08:31

Ocado Waitrose or Morrisons

KurriKawari · 05/12/2022 08:34

Tesco cancelled my delivery an hour before it was due to arrive and sent a bland "sorry for inconvenience" message, no support, no explanation. I had a sick child at home so yes there was plenty of inconvenience.

Croftboft · 05/12/2022 08:35

Not the experience I have regularly with tesco! Often no sub given for products that are easily subable.

Relocatiorelocation · 05/12/2022 08:36

I've tried them all and settled with Tesco. 1 hour delivery slots, never get subs, and if they send something with a short date the driver will often refund me.

PuppyMonkey · 05/12/2022 08:39

If you’ve got Amazon Prime, the Morrisons delivery can be a lifesaver. Order and have it delivered the same day. They text you as they’re doing your shopping about missing items and possible substitutions which you can accept or reject before they leave the store.

KurriKawari · 05/12/2022 08:39

Might be worth checking what your settings are and whether you've ticked the sub or no sub box.

Croftboft · 05/12/2022 08:43

Sub option is on, it's just my local tesco are rubbish at giving them!

WeeMadArthur1 · 05/12/2022 08:43

I'm working my way through them all in a bid to find the best one! Here's my findings so far:

Asda - cheap, good dates, but always loads of subs and not availables (their record is 20!)

Morrisons - more expensive, not as much selection, short dates, but never any subs.

Sainsbury's - expensive, good dates, rarely subs.

I'm going to try Tesco next!

7eleven · 05/12/2022 08:49

Tescos is rubbish in my experience- had two consecutive deliveries cancelled at short notice. I find Ocado the best, but Sainsbury’s is also good.

Sounds like it’s quite location dependent

cctvrec · 05/12/2022 08:54

Going by this thread I'm tending to agree with a pp who says it depends on the quality of the nearest store itself. Our Tesco has really good substitutions. You get the same but a far more expensive brand and it doesn't cost you any more than you were initially paying. We also got our deliveries even when the road was shut and there was an 80 mile diversion (this weekend of travelling hell in our middle of nowhere village).

I completely agree with this. Ocado are brilliant. I haven't had a substitution in weeks, and only one missing item in the last month. And the drivers have started carrying the shopping into the kitchen again.

IhearyouClemFandango · 05/12/2022 08:57

Tesco tbh. Also Waitrose though the Tesco app is better.

No ocado here.

4yearsandwaiting · 05/12/2022 09:00

I think it depends on area.
I've tried them all and now just use tesco because overall they are the best in my area.
I've never had tesco cancel on me in 8 years of using them. They usually substitute well and if something is near use by date the driver usually says keep it but I'll refund you. Drivers are lovely and very helpful.
They've changed their delivery plans which for me is good and bad but its still really reasonable for their cheaper plan.
