London restaurant for lunch

We have a rare work fee child free day next week and are going into London and wondered if someone could recommend somewhere nice but not super fancy for lunch. I WFH these days and because of the children (one of who is very hard work so a babysitter is difficult) have very little social life currently.

Our train gets into Kings X and I guess I'd look further than coal drop yard etc so happy to hop on tube.

Head to upper-street in Angel. On the northern line!

so many bars and restaurants. All really reasonable.

i recommend Gallipoli!

The Tom Dixon restaurant in Coal Drop is bloody lovely though. Really really good.

Is that the coal office? I've been there before but it's not open at lunch time unfortunately!

Brasserie Zedel. Stunning food. Stunning place. Amazing value.

The Delaunay. Get the bus down to Holborn. Or dishoom. Or the India club. All delicious

If you like Italian, Lina Stores in coal Drop Yard (I've been to the Bloomsbury arcade one).

Also agree with hopping on a bus/cab to upper st (Angel). Agree Gallipoli is great too!

Set price lunch at Aqua at the Shard is about £40. I think Angela Harnett's set menu at Murano on St James is about the same. Skye GIngell has a restaurant at SOmerset House which is slightly cheaper.

Not sure how up to date the prices are on this but some interesting ideas

It definitely is open for lunch! We've had lunch there often.

Bubbala, lunch tables aren't usually too hard to get and from Kings X both locations aren't difficult.

Prince of Tamil isn't too long to walk from Kings X, probably 5 mins by Uber. Think they do lunch.

AMessageToYouRuby · 03/08/2023 21:54

Also have you tried the restaurants at The Standard opposite Kings X? I've heard some good things plus they have an all day rooftop bar.

Donesosavemyusernamesettings · 03/08/2023 21:56

Bubala in Poland street or Spitalfields is amazing. Also Honey and Co on lambs conduit St, which is a 15 minute walk from Kings X.

Whitcombs at the Londoner is very good and not eye wateringly expensive
