Blue Peter Badges

Was watching the QI episode about the history of the beeb this morning, and they were discussing Blue Peter badges. I’ve realised that over the (many) decades since I got mine, they have somehow been lost, and I feel strangely bereft to no longer have them!

Did you ever get one, and what did you get it for?

I got one when I was 9 for writing them a long letter about my hobby which had been mentioned on a programme; it was a three page letter so I guess they recognised the effort that had been put into it! Sadly, I kept it in a locked box and the locked box was stolen in a burglary about five years later.

I longed for one but didn’t get one. They were like gold dust in those days.

DDs both got them by writing a poem and drawing a picture … neither of which were great (without being unkind!).

Saved us a fortune in entry fees for attractions.

When I wrote to them, I didn't think of getting a badge - I was hoping they'd read my letter out 😃I can see now that they'd have been very unlikely to read out three pages of my detailed and probably very boring information,, but I was very happy when the badge arrived in the post!

You can get them on eBay!

It wouldn't be the same ....

I had a normal one and then a silver one. Lost them over the years but wrote to BP when I was in my 30s and gave them my details, and they sent new ones!
At that time they could be used for free entry into things but I think that's now just for kids. Have lost them again.

I wonder if I wrote to them, would they replace mine? I don't know if they'd still have a record - it was back in 1983 😄

I won one for being a runner up in a design Val a dress competition. I was primary school age and had no idea DM has entered it. Of course I have lost it but I still have the letter from Biddy Baxter.

Here is an answer I prepared earlier.

No I did not get one.

Its worth a try.
They do keep records, it was mentioned on the Qi episode that they kept records to prevent children getting the same response twice

I lost mine too 😢 i always hoped it would turn up but 32 years and about 8 house moves later I guess it never will.

Mangolist · 06/12/2022 20:15
