The joy of an errant email

When I got married, I made a new email address with my married surname but diverted my old email to my new one.

Very, very occasionally I get an email to a photographer who has a very similar email to my old one, just one dot difference. It would be things like congratulating her on her recent exhibition or whatever, all very nice stuff and I would email back saying very sorry but you have the wrong person. Never had a response but they were so nice and enjoyable and like a glimpse into someone else’s lovely life so I didn’t really mind.

Just got this one - don’t know why, this person’s observations just fills me with joy:

Good evening Xxx,

Thank goodness I sat next to you and Xxx at the lunch!

The man on my left was certainly the strangest man I have ever met. He didn’t drink, I’m OK with
that. However he ate every morsel on his plate asked for more bread to mop it up and even had an eye on your desert as you were late starting it. Not to mention the several mince pies he scoffed, or his lack of any conversation. Ah well that’s life!

I agree with you about the closeness of the place settings and the poor acoustics. Let’s hope for a better venue next year!

Happy Christmas to you and your family

Floreat Brutonia!

Ah that’s the type of thing I would like to receive, as opposed to the errant / (deliberate ??) emails I frequently get due to gmail ignoring dots in emails so if, for example, you own [email protected], you also own janesmith and ja.nesmith etc

I get signed up for all sorts of junk mail, all to my name without the dot in it, and daily am copied into a strange chain in respect of some admin issue in America (I’ve had dismissal discussions, library committee email send outs, requests for my rowing ergo times!). It’s mainly the junk mail that annoys me. I keep meaning to take a deep breath and go somewhere other than gmail but I persevere…

I was invited to a school meeting once somewhere in SA (I'm in England). I ignored it assuming it was a very odd scam, but then I got a follow up email so i replied saying that they must have the wrong email address and they replied thanking me for letting them know. I have an old FB account that i use now and then to see what folks are up to, and some time after this i logged in to see that about 80% of my friend requests are from this one area in SA!
