Flexible Sigmoidoscopy worries 33f

I’ve got a flexible Sigmoidoscopy booked in a few weeks time after finding some blood in my stools/ persistent bleeding due to piles and other symptoms (pebble stools, occasionally constipation etc).

I have health anxiety which makes things like this even harder as everything I seem to research leads to poylops or cancer 😫

has anyone else had this procedure before? Or does anyone have any advice on how to handle nerves etc?

Yes, I’ve had one. Just part of regular age-related screening. I made the mistake of Googling it and it expected it to be very uncomfortable. In fact, I barely felt it AT ALL. Could just about feel it when they turned a corner, but apart from that - nothing. I watched it on the screen while they were doing it.

The worst bit was the paper ‘vanity’ pants with a hole in the back that they give you to wear!

Good luck op, hope it goes well.

@Luminousnose thank you and thanks for your reply! Did you get your results there and then?

To be honest I can’t remember - it was a few years ago. I know she talked me through it as it was happening. My DH had a colonoscopy this year and he was given a copy of the report when he left, so I imagine you’ll get the same.
