Raw chicken in takeaway

FearofQueefing · 03/12/2022 20:45

Need help from any wise Mumsnetters out there.

Eating Chinese takeaway tonight and bit into a piece of chicken that was raw inside. Spat it out immediately but now panicking slightly in case of food poisoning. Is there anything practical I can do at this point? (Please no comments about suing restaurant etc. My husband is all over complaint etc) Need to know if there's any practical damage limitation I can do to stop myself getting really sick.
Any words of wisdom appreciated.

You didn't eat any of it if you spat it out so you are unlikely to be unwell.

felluptheroad · 03/12/2022 20:48

I did exactly the same a few weeks ago. Satay chicken skewer was raw inside. I had a bite and DH ate a whole one without noticing.
Both absolutely fine.

felluptheroad · 03/12/2022 20:49

You only get sick if the chicken has salmonella which is rare apparently.

Skinnermarink · 03/12/2022 20:49

Well obviously complain but raw meat does not automatically equal you’ll be ill- we are built to be a bit hardier than that.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 03/12/2022 20:49

Probably minimal risk if you haven't actually swallowed any.

I would have immediately rinsed my mouth out with water, brushed my teeth, and maybe used some alcohol-containing mouthwash (or had some gin...) but a) that's probably over the top and b) after the fact by now.

crussont · 03/12/2022 20:49

I personally would drink a lot of water

ShirleyPhallus · 03/12/2022 20:50

I’d wash your mouth out with hand sanitizer just to be sure?

(joking, don’t do this. You can’t do anything now but wait)

Water is a good call. Thank you.

Have just gargled with vodka and spat. Waste of good vodka...

Why did you spit it out?! Other than it being a waste, if you believed it was going to do something, you'd need to swallow it surely for it to kill the germs in your stomach?

holierthanthou73 · 03/12/2022 21:46

Have you tried Google

dementedpixie · 03/12/2022 22:35

What is drinking water or gargling with vodka going to do?

Have a couple of vodkas and calm down

FuckFuckGo · 03/12/2022 22:59

Unlike some other bacteria you have to ingest quite a lot of salmonella to get sick. And if it’s any reassurance I ate a skewer of partially-cooked chicken at a restaurant once but I was fine, and I’m sure you will be too.

FuckFuckGo · 03/12/2022 23:02

In theory taking/eating something probiotic like kefir or yogurt might help, if doing something practical would make you feel better.

TwoMonthsOff · 03/12/2022 23:02

It’s campylobacter in raw chicken isn’t it quite prevalent ?

TheSuspect · 03/12/2022 23:02

Go vegetarian/vegan, it won’t happen again then. 😉

FearofQueefing · 03/12/2022 23:03

@dementedpixie possibly nothing. Was just panicking more than anything. Have a poorly husband already and builders arriving on Monday. Can't risk getting sick....

@FuckFuckGo that's more reassuring. Thank you...

Stop you getting dehydrated if you do get ill

FearofQueefing · 04/12/2022 15:26

@vanillasunshine - no puking thus far. If I can make it to about 9pm then I think I'm in the clear....
