New varifocals - seeing double

Posting here hoping for help!
Got new varifocals this week as old ones were giving me some problems - specifically blurring at bottom of images (esp car lights and text on tv/laptop/kindle).
Prescription is apparently very different due to astigmatism changing and optician said to give it 2 weeks to adjust. Close up is great but anything more than a few feet away is blurry and driving is dangerous! Now seeing an almost complete 2nd image underneath and 2nd "set" of car lights seem to touch the ground. Does anyone have any experience of this? Do I persevere or is this problem never going to resolve?

Go back, there may just need to be a slight height adjustment to make sure you absolutely are looking 100% through the distance area.
If they were fitted with you sitting straight, but you drive with your chin tilted up slightly for example, then it can mean things are slightly out of line.
