How will this ever be resolved with energy company? So stressed, can anyone help

We moved in in September. At the time we called up they said they could access our readings and would bill in a month.

They are now saying they were never able to access readings so basically they have no starting point with which gi bill is when we moved in. Every time I’ve called I get different advice, some say they can access readings then give me the cost to date and others say they don’t even have that facility. I am beyond stressed as no clarity on this and it’s now December. I have called probably 40 times and still there is no accurate bill just a request from them of 1,499 for a budget plan they’ve put us on despite saying from day one we wanted to pay each bill as it came in ie accurately.

I really don’t know what to do anymore

Did you take photos of the meter readings when you moved in?
Can you ask to go on a smart meter to keep future payments accurate.

Why do they need to access it? You'll have taken your own meter reading when you moved in and the seller would have taken a final meter reading. Use those.

DD's meter was in a totally inaccessible place so she had to negotiate with the lekki company (not to pay £800 bill they tried to lumber her with for 3 months).

What do you know about your readings?

@Electricio can you access your readings at all? Usually when they have no opening readings they apportion a bill based on daily use since and any usage before you by the previous person. I used to do this for an energy company.

The meter needs to be accessible by you and by the meter company as they have to do visual safety checks periodically on both gas and electric meters. Where is your meter? Take daily readings at roughly the same time. Then they have something to go on.
