From The Sopranos to Breaking Bad..

Well, I absolutely loved every second of The Sopranos apart from the ending which I hated! I hate anything that ends without a clear cut knowing what happened, however, I would give it a solid 10/10!

I was lost for a bit until my son suggested Breaking Bad and once again, I'm freaking hooked.... How did I miss this one as well? I have laughed so hard in places. Jesse and Walt in the first season and a half are so comical. I'm just about to finish the final episode in season 2.

Saul has arrived!

I think BCS is actually better than BB. Saul is such a great character and you get to see how he got to where he was.

I loved sopranos but couldn’t warm to breaking bad.
Some episodes were good but nothing on the level of sopranos imo.
I gave up watching.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 02/12/2022 22:01

Also... sorry to be this person! But the ending to the Sopranos is really clear, and the groundwork/set up is done in so many previous episodes! You don't have it spelled out to you for it to be an excellent ending. The Sopranos always relied on viewer intelligence and you're required to use a little of that at the end.

I loved Breaking Bad, wish I could watch it again for the first time, I’m a little bit jealous!

MarkBright · 02/12/2022 23:23

The Americans is brilliant with a fantastic ending.

Scautish · 02/12/2022 23:42

Nothing beats The Wire imo however all shows mentioned already - including the much underrated “The Americans” - are brilliant.

given you liked Sopranos - have you watched Gomorrah? (www.imdb.com/title/tt2049116/ ). I think even better than Sopranos, though quite different (and far, far bleaker - probably more realistic)

the first season of True Detective amazing too.

Finally - The Bureau. French MI6 equivalent. Extremely well done with really good characters. www.imdb.com/title/tt4063800/

It’s bloody brilliant! Am gutted it’s finished and am envious that you’ve got it ahead of you. I was sceptical when I started, as really couldn’t imagine how it could be anywhere as good as BB. I was wrong.

daisyjgrey · 03/12/2022 09:13

Sopranos is superb, and it's worth reading the book of essays, so much Shakespeare grounding. I agree with a pp that the ending is clear, it's just not spoon fed to you.

IMO it's one of the best things written for tv and rather annoyingly, everything else falls very short 😂

goodnessidontknow · 03/12/2022 09:20

If you like Sopranos and Breaking Bad, give The Shield a try 😀 it's very gritty but truly well done and also based on true events.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 03/12/2022 09:22

As you can see from my user name i am a big fan of BB and BCS. I loved the Americans also. I can also recommend Ozark on Netflix and Mindhunters also Netflix.
