Would it be a small!

I would say men's small in a cheaper brand like Primark, maybe an extra small in more expensive brands.

UsingChangeofName · 02/12/2022 15:44

I'd have said bigger - medium at least.
But of course it depends on the 14 yr old.
At 14, my ds hadn't had his growth spurt, but several of his friends were practically adult sized

SpinningFloppa · 02/12/2022 15:46

I would have said medium

dementedpixie · 02/12/2022 15:51

My ds is 16 and wears a mens Small
He could probably wear a Medium too as he is quite broad
I'd say age 14, depending on build, would be a small or extra small

cookiecreammmpie · 02/12/2022 15:59

I don't think there's a set size at this age. My own 14 year old is over 6 foot now, some of his friends are still the size of 10 year olds. He wears a large in sportswear as he prefers a baggier fit but it depends on style and brand

Desdem · 02/12/2022 16:01

One 14 year old could be a medium, another would be a x-small.

The growth spurt thing is real.

cavily1806 · 02/12/2022 16:01

Depends on height and weight. My 5"5, average weight DH wears small

FridayNightIsWineNight · 02/12/2022 16:02

My DS14 is wearing men's medium.

Damnautocorrect · 02/12/2022 16:02

It’s crap. There isn’t a one size. In some it’s xs in some it’s small and very rarely medium.

PickledRat · 02/12/2022 16:08

Totally depends how tall/big he is but XS is one up from the child age 12-13 so if he a ‘normal’ size he should fit XS.

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 02/12/2022 16:09

Do you mean what adult size is the equivalent of boys age 14 clothes?
Or what mens size do 14 year olds wear?

When my DS was 14 he wore XS mens. Age 14 was too short in the leg

EdithWeston · 02/12/2022 16:11

Basically I found at this age next to nothing fitted - because they can be quite tall but are usually skinny, so the proportions typical in adult men's sizing are all wrong

XS are next to never in the shops, so difficult to find anything to try on to see what the fit is like!

Tops are often easier - could be anywhere between XS/S/M
Trousers/jeans harder, but worth trying Uniqlo if you have a beanpole, as they do unusual sizes like 28/32 (ie small waist/long leg) which can be handy until they fill out a bit!

A few brands still do teen sizes - worth keeping an eye out (Asda used to be quite good, but I think it's a shadow of its former self, if the range still exists at all)

Peacelily38 · 02/12/2022 16:13

Depends how tall he is, mine is usually in 'small' for men's clothing.

Mumsnut · 02/12/2022 16:30

Mine was 6 2" at that age and needed an L or XL - for length.

Mumsnut · 02/12/2022 16:30

So I think you need to take / get some measurements!

TheYummyPatler · 02/12/2022 16:33

Thing is, adult men have to wear different sizes. And different sizes in different shops. Just like women do.

My 13 year old wears XS-M size tops depending on where they’re from. He’s not even particularly big (c. 5’8 and of thin athletic build).

Tree543 · 02/12/2022 16:42

I think there is a gap in the market for teen size clothes. My 14 year old is 5 11 but really skinny so mens clothes hang off him. Teens can be as tall as adult men but normally skinnier.

frogswimming · 02/12/2022 16:56

For info, it's actually for my eleven year old Grin He's very tall and thin. He is wearing some primark pyjamas in kids size 13-14 now and they fit just right. I founded boys things in size 13-14 in the end so I didn't need to get mens this time!

My DS is 12 and wears age 14 clothes for the height. He is also incredibly slim.
Adult clothes for him are an XS, and and XXS would probably be even better

FourTeaFallOut · 02/12/2022 17:00

As soon as they phase out of the 13-14yrs then small is the next size up - or seems to have been with my 2 ds.

BeyondTheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 02/12/2022 17:00

There is definitely a gap in the market for gangly boys!

FourTeaFallOut · 02/12/2022 17:04

I think re lack of gangly boy clothing, it's to do with the vat exemption on kids clothing which maxes out with the length of a garment. Although that's just my best guess

4yearsandwaiting · 02/12/2022 17:06

Obviously depends on size/build but dc3 aged 13 1/2 is male small and is 5ft 2 and quite broad.
Dc1 is 18 and wears a medium he's 5ft10.

AllOfTheDwarves · 02/12/2022 21:03

My DS has some child's things in age 14, as well as men's clothes in size small.

lljkk · 02/12/2022 21:08

I'm 5'8, not overweight, & wear a man's medium.
DS is 5'7" so he's a 14yo medium I'd say, but could also fit small given his shoulders aren't as brawny as mine (yet).
