Advice please - missing parcel (UPS)

I missed a delivery of a parcel last week and the delivery slip was popped through our letter box. Since our whole family had covid, I didn't collect it for that week.

The parcel was then taken to a local UPS point in a family run store in a nearby town. Went yesterday with the delivery note and ID, to be told that the parcel had been sent back.

I've contacted UPS who say that their records indicate that the parcel was collected from the store.

The parcel contains one very expensive kitchen knife - a gift.

What's my next course of action? Help!

What does the online tracking show?

Tracking shows that the parcel went to the shop. Nothing else.

Did you buy this from a retailer? If so, your contract is with the retailer, not the delivery company so it is the retailer's responsibility legally to resolve this (redeliver / send a new item).
