Hand, foot and mouth disease

My 16 yr old son has H, F & M and has red spots on his hands, face and feet. Although he had the fever, pain and lethargy earlier in the week he has been off school, partly because of snow. My husband who is an M.D. says because he feels fine he should go back to school tomorrow but from what I can see online I get the impression that if he still has spots he is contagious (and this disease is very easy to catch). I think the school and other parents would appreciate him staying home but what do you think? Maybe it seems an obvious call but if anyone is familiar with this disease is it still contagious if he developed it 5-6 days ago? I would appreciate your POV because when you have a dr in the family they tend to always expect you to get on with it and he wants my son to go to school in the morning.

The advice in the Uk is that you go back when you feel better even is the rash is still present

Now my adult daughter who had it before her brother said she was told by the dr she saw to have 7-10 days of quarantine because it’s so contagious.

If you don’t want to send him to school don’t send him to school. Medical advice in the UK Is that once you’re feeling better you can go back to school
