Returning perfume as its off! House of frasers

I bought perfume tonight, no testers available but had smelled in another shop. Only 1 of 2 left and not getting more in.

Sales person said to go back to other shop, smell and if not happy return. I did this and was happy with the smell.

Opened it up when home and it smells off as if its been sitting too long it's a hard smell to describe but it is most definitely different from the sample.

What are my chances of them accepting the return do you think? It's £75 so a lot of money.

I could essentially try and put it back in the plastic and just return it but don't want to do that!

Long winded and first world problems (ridiculous) but this is making me anxious!

With house of Fraser now that it’s owned by sports direct I’d say your chances are slim to none. You might get a refund to a voucher to buy something else from them.

This is what I'm worried about even though it smells like it's been in my grans cupboard for a number of years! Im wondering if I have any rights.

This happened to me with House of Fraser.
I bough Dior Forever and Ever perfume, paid £94 in store for it, last summer in Norwich store.
Brought it home, opened it and it smelled so off!
This is my signature scent, I know so well how it should smell, however it was so wrong.
The very next day we went back and they refused to do anything l
The sale assistants were really not helpful, they kept passing it to each other, sniffing it and making remarks that nothing is wrong with it.
I kept politely saying that I know this fragrance very well and it’s smells very off.
In the end they decided to switch it for identical same one.
They brought another bottle out from the stockroom, the box was so dusty, but they said it’s new a week ago delivery.
So I accepted it.
Went home, opened and the same issue. Horrible off smell.
I think the perfumes were old, probably long time in storage as the box had old stickers on it too.
I would never buy perfumes from them again.

Oh no @Snowingcatsaround that is terrible! And not surprising... I should've known when there was only 2 bottles left of it, no tester and the others were also being ran down.

I'm going to go in tomorrow and just explain it is clearly off and that I am entitled to a change or credit note (I'd even take that)

Will update with how I get on. Wish me luck!

@kleew1 hopefully they will change it.
Yes I wanted the credit note instead of a another bottle too but they refused.
It was really interesting to see the same sale assistant who actually sold the perfume to me on the first day, and was so friendly and affectionate, the next day when we returned, she was so unfriendly and rude.
I do believe it was an old stock, god knows how many years it sat in that stockroom.

I took it to John Lewis for an opinion before returning they mostly agreed with me except the actual bottega lady who was adamant they were the same.

They also said I had no chance.

So basically I have the perfume, couldn't sleep for overthinking about it and backed out of it completely.

Oh well. Wish this was a better update!!!

@kleew1 did you take to HoF? Did they accept it?
