Not sure how I feel about this - the quality has dropped massively in recent years, and prices have gone up! But my children were dressed in a lot of Frugi as toddlers, so I do feel a little bit wistful!

I used to buy scandi brands, I always thought they were more expensive than Frugi

rurbane · 02/12/2022 08:58

Loved them when they were Cut 4 Cloth. Yes, they were expensive but the clothes were comfortable, stayed looking new and my children kept on wearing them well beyond the recommended age. Loved the colours and patterns.

purpleme12 · 02/12/2022 08:58

When my frugi comes it still says cut 4 cloth on it?

legalseagull · 03/12/2022 07:49

Noooooooooo. First joules and now Frugi. They're my two go-to clothing brands for my 3 and 4 year old (only buy in the sales mind, I'm not rich 🤑)

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 03/12/2022 07:59

Frugi lost its way when the founders sold out to investment companies (not really ethical!) The prices went up, the quality and sizing went way down, the tried to grow the business too quickly and they also shafted the small independent businesses that sold Frugi through the pandemic. They tried to get by with the loyal customers (I was one before they sold) but the quality was not worth the price they were asking in the end.

There are better, more ethical companies that still have quality and a good but sustainable price point.

Nooooooo

I loved Frugi so much. I bought from them when they were cut 4 cloth in the early 2000s. My kids are all teens now but I hope that something ican be salvaged.

I could've written the sane thing.
The quality of their clothes was possibly their downfall - my friend's 2 year old is wearing Frugi clothes DS had 12 years ago (including a pair of teal/purple striped joggers, it's not all rainbow!). They've been in pretty much constant use ever since - this must limit their sales of new stuff.

I like that they have been bought by Celtic and Co though. Both uk companies with similar ethics.

I liked the idea of frugi but quickly realised my children were very much polyester children, constantly covered in paint and dirt or food substances which requires regular washes. They were never going to be the clean children that show off a colourful romper. I had two frugi items and both got ruined/bobbled very quickly purely because they needed washing so often.

My 3YO wears almost exclusively Frugi, and 6YO has a lot although I shop around a bit more for her now. But I've never bought a single item full price.
I am not surprised at this news because I don't know anyone who buys it new at full price. It's all Preloved, hand me downs, or bought at 60-70% off in the sales.
All of it goes SO much cheaper in the sales, they're either over producing or over pricing and then having to sell off masses at heavy reduction. Why would anyone buy a dress for £32 when you know you can get it for £12 in a few months time?

CakeCrumbs44 · 03/12/2022 08:27

Also since the new owners, their independent stockists have been treated really badly and several have closed.
Independent retailers affected in ways such as;

  • Frugi started being available in Marks and Spencers and Sainsbury's
  • Huge discounts/sales from Frugi direct to customers, which Indies couldn't match
  • Items being released on Frugi website before indies had them delivered, so no more "drop day" sale rushes
  • Items delayed, not available to indies or delivered without notice
I don't think it's the ethical, high-quality brand it used to be.

I used to love frugi but they seem to have gone more unicorns for girls and vehicles for boys lately you can get that sort of thing from the supermarket for half the price also seems to be less bright crazy patterns which is what I love on my dc. Also the price has gone up and the quality definitely gone down.

Yeah I buy the "boys" for my little girl though. It all fits the same.

That's true I only ever bought on sale

alasangne · 08/12/2022 07:03

Have they been saved?

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 08/12/2022 07:05

Have they been saved?

Yes they have been bought out by another company and trading again. Only online, the 2 shops they had have closed.

Horray!

Shame about the shops but glad the brand has survived. Was thinking about them today as I put my child in one of their jumpers bought off ebay. Their clothes last ages.
