Is this a thing? Not sure how to word it

Someone making something up in their own head then believing it? Is it an actual thing? a symptom of something? a mental health issue?

As in I could say something as simple as 'Oh it looks lovely in Turkey' and the person will then convince themselves that I'm moving to Turkey, and I have it all planned out and I'm hiding it from them. They will then get aggressive with me if I deny it, name calling will start (I'm apparently a piece of work, cloak and dagger, a liar, selfish), it then goes on and on and the thing they are getting so mad about isn't even happening and I never mentioned that it ever was in the first place.

This person is giving me shit for something I'm not (and never was) doing. They are absolutely convinced that I am about to do it though.

Not sure if I have explained myself well.

Paranoia?

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2022 01:26

Yes I'd assume it's a MH issue of some sort, paranoia, dep on age could be impairment in their comprehension ie dementia? But presumably always bad things they misinterpret?

Batshittery?

How old is this person and what is their relationship to you? How long has it been going on for? Do they have a history of trying to manipulate you?

My ex was good at believing his own lies. He would add arms and legs on to every situation and make out he was 3 steps ahead of everyone else. He was a paranoid, jealous, wreck, who smoked far too much weed.

Person is closely related to me and just turned 60. It's getting to the point where i can't speak without being accused of something.
