How to make friends?

Just that really... I work on my own and I do talk to clients all day but how do I make friends?
I'm mid 30's, don't really have any hobbies, and I'm starting to feel a little lonely and wondering if I will ever make that good friend I can talk about anything too.

Has anyone ever met a friend later on in life?
Has anyone got any tips?

Hoping I won't be a loner forever!!

You can make friends at any age though I find it's more difficult the older you get.

Try the meet up app/groups. Lots of people on there with various interests meet up and participate in common hobbies. You might meet someone with similar interests to you. I have found that I made a few friends by going to gym classes too.

Could you maybe pick up a wee part time job as well, one that's not WFH and would give you the opportunity to meet people? A walking or book group, gym, etc?

Join your local home workers club - the one near me has lots of social events going on evenings and weekends.
Join groups doing what your interests are - crafting/walking/singing etc
Join groups doing something that takes you outside of your comfort zone.
Check out your local ‘meet up’.
Ask on your local FB page if anyone is new to the area/lonely want to meet for a coffee or a walk.

You have to get out there. I worked really hard when I moved to a new place knowing no one and I have a lovely group of friends and a busy calendar now. Late 30’s. But it takes a lot of work.

Do you not have any friends from school/college OP?

Maybe an evening class (salsa or learning a language, gym and exercise classes) might help to meet people. If you have the time of course

I'm a very chatty person and make friends just being at Tesco in the queue but I understand it's not always that easy for others.

Good luck x

To make a friend you have to be a friend. Invite someone you admire out to a film; invite people round for dinner; buy them a thoughtful christmas gift.
