Where to live near Gatwick

I would really appreciate any advice. I have a new job at Gatwick airport and will need to relocate from up North. Can anyone suggest where I should look for reasonably priced rented accommodation within an hours commute by public transport?

What do you deem affordable? Horley is popular with airport workers or Three Bridges but probably more than you currently pay.

Redhill?

Thanks LIZS, My rent at the moment is £400/ month but I could probably stretch to £600.

I think you probably need to look at a house share / bedsit type thing for that price. Maybe a studio.

Afraid you will struggle to find anywhere commutable unless you share. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/57456440#/?channel=RES_LET 1 bed Horley If you are likely to have early/late shifts public transport can be tricky.

Check out FB for cabin crew accommodation/house share, there are lots of pages re this. Shared houses or rooms to let in Crawley/Horley are a good bet.

LlynTegid · 30/11/2022 21:11

I think you are going to have to accept some form of house share.

SE is expensive, money doesn't stretch nearly as far as up north. House share probably only option on such a small budget. Crawley or Redhill maybe?

Eesh just seen your rent.

We pay £1200/month for a 2 bedroom flat....we're 20 minutes from Gatwick.

geraniumsandsunshine · 30/11/2022 21:24

I know someone who pays about £850 for a one bed flat in Horley but they have been long term tenants, so rent hasn't increased too much

LiftyLift · 30/11/2022 21:27

I am in Sussex too, afraid to say it will be right for even a room share on that money. Crawley and Horley both good for a short commute. If you are driving, it opens up other towns nearby, like East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

Looks like I’ll need to have another look at my budget! I had hoped to be able to save for a deposit on a flat but I don’t see that happening.
Thanks for all the suggestions though, at least I have some idea of where to start looking. It’s a bit daunting having to share a house with strangers, like being a student again.
