Do you answer email answers?

If you email a company enquiring about a product or an order you've made with them and they answer your question, do you then email back to say thank you? Is it polite or annoying - as it's a waste of the helpdesk worker's time to have to read another (useless) email?

e.g. you ordered a product but afterwards realised the picture was a different version to the one that was listed. You query to check that they will send what was listed and not pictured. They answer to confirm. Do you then email back to thank them?

If I say "thanks in advance" and you can't do the thing, I expect you to reply telling me "sorry, I can't do the thing".

If you said a presumptuous 'thanks in advance' for something I hadn't even agreed to, I'd be less inclined to do it. And I would ignore anyone who 'expected' a reply to demands not requests.

That isn't taking needless offence, it is just common courtesy to say please before and thank you afterwards, whatever your relative position.

Jeese Louise, the point of the whole thanks/in advance thing is to stop more unnecessary emails pinging back and forth.

The absolute worst is 'you're welcome '.

I mean, it's 2022

@GlassDeli I agree
