Can anyone remember this object from the 80s?

I distinctly remember buying/collecting pink (or red) satin covered, round trinket boxes with Japanese style dolls or maybe it was just the dolls heads sewn to the sides. They seemed quite common at the time, and me and my friends used to buy them for each other at Christmas with a pair or earrings or necklace inside. They seemed to be everywhere, but they became a bit naff after a while and disappeared. A google search hasn't produced anything and nobody I know can work out what I'm talking about. I would love to see a picture of one.

Well, I have a pincushion surrounded by these little heads but it was bought in China by my DH in 1982. It was the first present he ever gave me so I still have it and use it, though I have recovered the cushion bit many times, and some of the pigtails have fallen to the ravages of time. Definitely Chinese, though.

Oh that is beautiful. It was really similar to that, especially the dolls round the side, but they were definitely boxes, that came in different sizes. Mainly bought at local markets and only a few quid, so they were clearly cheap copies of what you have.
