Hi,
My DS was referred to an orthodontist about 18 months ago.
He recently had the appointment and I am confused about the information given and wondered if anyone could help us make a decision with personal experience of a similar situation.
He is now 13. His teeth are straight apart from a tiny overlap with his top front 2 teeth.
The orthodontist advised us that he has a cross bite and that the top right teeth do not sit right over the bottom teeth.
This is a jaw issue but one that is classed as mild and wold not require or qualify for surgery.
They advised that he DOES qualify for braces but that they would make minimal difference to his teeth as the cross bite cannot be fixed. They discussed risk vs reward and I felt the orthodontist was trying to put us off braces.
We now need to decide yes or no to braces.
I called my dentist for advice but she wasn’t able to shed anymore light on things. Said I could request a private second opinion (not an option). Or see the same orthodontist again for another consultation? Not sure what I’d gain from that although maybe if I took my DH along too he might glean something I didn’t on the first visit.
I don’t want to say no if my son ends up missing out in benefits from the braces. At this time however he doesn’t want them.
anyone had similar experience and can advise me?
