Mulled wine

Not for me unfortunately can't drink.

Can anyone recommend a good mulled wine?

I remember tasting a good one a few years back at winter wonderland in London but then the ones I tasted after that didn't taste as good. Quite strong in alcohol too.

Lidl or Aldi always have the best one! The proper German Gluhwein

Make your own?
It's delicious, as is mulled cider.

Agree, the Lidl one - not the cheapest one though. I've seen two in there this year and the better one is almost £5 a bottle but far nicer. In my store it's not with the alcohol but in with the Xmas goodies.

Itstheimplication · 29/11/2022 19:35

@StaceySolomonSwash yes I noticed it had gone up from £3.99 this year!

I got an alcohol free one from Tesco which was lovely if you fancy some OP

I make my own with Schwartz mulled wine sachets. I find the bought ones too sweet. You can adjust the sweetness to taste if you make your own (but homemade does need some sugar otherwise it's rank)

I make my own with a cheap bottle of red. Much nicer than bought.

DogInATent · 29/11/2022 19:44

Bottle of nice red not something cheap, orange studded with cloves, a few peppercorns, lemon zest, sugar to taste, and brought up to heat from cold in the slowcooker. Use the slowcooker and it will be potent as the alcohol won't evaporate off.

Lidl is hands down the best of the supermarket ones. It’s even better than M&S and Booths.

Thanks for suggestions.

This makes the best mulled wine, even my German in-laws agree!

Meant to add.... I use the mulled wine bags in my red cabbage, a much more subtle flavour than using whole spices. One bag for a small cabbage, 2 for a very large one.
