Do You Entertain Much Leading Up To Christmas?

I kind of feel sad that DH & I hardly ever entertain, let alone at Christmas. A lot of the time we’re too tired & can’t find the kitchen table ( although I know you don’t have to eat at the table). All the ads, magazines etc are full of ideas for party food & I feel pressured to join in what I imagine is one huge December feast! What do you all do?

No we don't.

My parents did when i was growing up (80's) we had folk in for drinks and card games a couple of nights in the week before xmas, and then all the neighbours in on Boxing day.

I think PIL did too till recently.

Yes, cooking a special dinner for my girlfriends, and hosting a drinks party for friends and neighbours. I love cooking and so do lots of our friends. Almost always have a Christmas party.

I wish I did but I'm a single parent. My marriage break up lost me a lot of friends and I can't be bothered.

Anyone else?

Nope.
Few friends, and all living far away. I'm either working, looking after my grandson or walking the dog. I'm not very sociable either.
However I do host the entire family at Christmas!

We do, but in an entirely random fashion - there isn't a fixed event we do.

It's my birthday in December, so sometimes a party for that. Sometimes we host NYE. When everyone had toddlers, an afternoon buffet all wrapped up by 4pm. This year having my sister and family for a stay.

No and I'm not sure why. I like the idea of it but I just never can be arsed. I'm not a very good cook and get nervous about hosting people in case they have a crap time so I just tend to keep to myself (with dh and dc obviously). Sad really.

We have a party the Saturday before Christmas
Also do a girls’ afternoon tea on the first Advent Sunday

Lndnmummy · 29/11/2022 21:13

No. We have so many work dos and things this time of year so any 'free' evenings/weekends we just like to be at home and enjoy getting ready for christmas and spending time together.

We never "entertain". Our house isn't up to it and we both hate cooking and all the effort. We go out a lot in the weeks running up to Christmas (with other like-minded people!!) and buy the M&S party food for out family unit to graze on during Christmas Day in the run up to dinner.
