For 2-4 players, but that is still fun if played by only 2 people
Not extremely long

Not Monopoly-like

We love Carcasonne, How to rob a bank, Virus, Rummikub, Imagine and Scrabble
He has asked for Ticket to ride - is it really good?

Thank you!

Risk? It doesn't have to be extremely long - usually quicker with fewer players.

pompomsontheedge · 29/11/2022 11:35

Backgammon

EHopes · 29/11/2022 11:40

Ticket to ride is good. My kids enjoy

You could consider
Quirkle
Sagrada
Azul
Risk (very old school)
Dragonwood
Card games like exploding kittens and unstable unicorns

Or for cooperative games my 10yo loves
Castle panic
Forbidden desert.

All those play well with 2-4 players and none last too long.

Uno extreme

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 29/11/2022 11:44

Catan - best with 4
Hive - 2 player

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 29/11/2022 11:45

Oh, and Blocus

cornflakegirl · 29/11/2022 11:47

Ticket to Ride New York is 2-4 players and takes about 15 mins to play. Really good fun.

cornflakegirl · 29/11/2022 11:52

Current favourite with my teens is 6 nimmt - very simple to learn, quick to play a round, can get quite strategic.

BlueChampagne · 29/11/2022 13:08

Jaipur is a good 2-player game.

luckylavender · 29/11/2022 13:25

Great Game of Britain

IamAporcupine · 29/11/2022 21:22

Many thanks everyone, I'll look them up

Ticket to Ride really is great, would recommend. Another family favourite is Perudo.

Baboutheocelot · 29/11/2022 21:32

King domino

Tallulasdancingshoes · 29/11/2022 21:35

Ticket to ride is really good. Ours has old fashioned European destinations. Not sure if that the original or not, but it’s good.

PhotoDad · 29/11/2022 21:36

Forbidden Island (takes 30 mins) (co-operative)
Pandemic (takes an hour) (co-operative)

Gloomhaven. (Only joking! But we started it when my DS was 11. Took three years to finish it.)

LoopDiL00p · 29/11/2022 21:36

We love Labyrinth

CoQ10 · 29/11/2022 21:36

Perudo brilliant!

colourmebladd · 29/11/2022 21:37

Labyrinth - good 2 player game

autienotnaughty · 29/11/2022 21:42

Yes ticket to ride is great. For a card game The Mind is fab.

HardStareBear · 29/11/2022 21:48

Machi Koro, Qwirkle, & Labyrinth would be my suggestions. All good as a two (which is how they mostly get played in our house).

hamstersarse · 29/11/2022 21:49

Quirkle was a favourite at that age

Ticket to Ride New York is 2-4 players and takes about 15 mins to play. Really good fun.

Are there any real differences in the game between, say, Ticket to Ride New York and Ticket to Ride London?

OP posts:
PurpleParrotfish · 29/11/2022 22:51

Splendor
Kingdomino
Honourable mention for Star Realms although that’s 2 players only

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/11/2022 22:52

Can’t beat Cluedo.

cornflakegirl · 29/11/2022 22:54

I've not played Ticket to Ride London, but just read the description on Board Game Geek and they look to be 95% the same - I think one element of the scoring mechanism is slightly different.
