Nail spa - tell me what to say

I have very soft nails. They do grow a little but then always break. I don’t bite them but they’re quite short. As a Christmas treat to myself I want to get my nails painted as they only last 1-2 days before chipping if I do it.

I don’t think I want false nails but what are acrylic tips or shellac something or other? Don’t understand all the options!

I basically want them to look like this, maybe a different colour. What do I ask for?

How about builder gel? It’s a gel nail varnish, so doesn’t chip easily, and provides extra strength to your nails. It has made a massive difference to mine! Ask the salon whether they do ‘builder in a bottle’.

OP, I think that's a French Manicure. Maybe take the photo in to show them.

Don't get shellac. It will ruin your natural nails. (Google it).

Ok so no shellac. Sounds like a gel polish/builder is what I want and might help harden them a bit. Don’t know what SNS is 😕 will need to read about that.

Thanks!

Gel would be best. Show them the photo, I often do that

I also have soft nails, always breaking. I got a full set of acrylics and gel varnish. Now my normal nails have grown underneath, I am very happy with them, make me look more grown up 😊. This is them after a week, I usually get them every 3 weeks or so. The french manicure is nice but a bit more expensive

That is not a French manicure (painted nail tip is a French). Don't get acrylics, they'll make your nails weaker after removal. Shellac will not ruin your nails as long as it's applied and removed correctly. I would advise builder gel (biab) it's stronger and has more staying power than shellac, worth paying the extra for.

The pic you posted is natural nails with a gel polish. I agree you need a builder gel. That's what that it could possibly be in the pic you posted as well.

You don't have to have extensions. They can build a natural nail shape with just the BIAB gel for short nails.

Avoid acrylics and tips. Use a cuticle oil and decent hand cream.

Another vote for builder gel!

GreenOxide · 29/11/2022 07:49

Thanks you guys! I’m armed with the info and off later. Excited 😊

Yup you need builder gel. That is what I have and my nails break no more.

QueenOfThorns · 29/11/2022 18:07
