Hellish virus

Officially at the end of my rope.

DS (1) has had a cold for 10 days which turned into bronchitis and he's been really poorly and now on antibiotics.

He turned a corner today but eldest DS (4) was sent home from school today with a temperature of 39.

I've had this virus for a week too, with bronchitis, conjunctivitis in both eyes and now tonsillitis pain, feels like broken glass when I swallow.

I've had many sleepless nights with coughing fits and up with eldest DS. Youngest DS who'd slept brilliantly throughout has now been up since 4am screaming, so not sure if antibiotics are now disagreeing with him.

I was hoping to be back at work tomorrow as I have deadlines looming and am so overwhelmed. To top it off, my first period since csection started today and am in so much pain from that.

Feeling so sorry for myself

Here for a hand hold! I’m up with a vomiting three year old who has just puked up a dose of calpol. Assuming I can get suppositories from the local pharmacy, that’s a task for as soon as they open. Poor lamb is lying on the sofa looking very sorry for himself.

I have a quiet-ish week at work but was planning on catching up with a lot of things I’ve been putting off. I was knackered last night by the time DS had finally nodded off and I’d washed all the puke towels so I just went to bed instead of catching up. Glad I did as we’ve been up since 4.30 😞

we had a version of what you had a few weeks ago, it was grim and the residual cough lasted for a couple of weeks. Hope you all recover soon.

Coconutcream123 · 29/11/2022 05:37

Eurgh me and DCs had this in Aug whilst DH was away with work for 3 weeks! It was hell. All I'd say is don't rush back to work and risk getting another bug on top - a friend of mine did this and then was off a week later with another virus on top of what she had just had (similar to what you have now!). X

Hellishvirus · 29/11/2022 05:45

Urgh sympathies! There's a sickness bug at nursery so I fear we'll get that too as soon as youngest goes back...

He's now gone back to sleep but soothes by pinching the skin on my hand, I usually find it cute but I'm in so much pain everywhere else already I just wanted to scream! Desperately trying to suppress my cough so I don't wake him again now...

I had lots of Christmassy social events at work this week too and have just cancelled everything.

Too wired to sleep now and eldest will probably be up in a minute, so it will be another night of 3 hours of broken sleep.

Hope your little lamb feels better soon and you don't catch it!

Thanks @Coconutcream123 I am worried about the kids picking up something else when they go back, I can work from home so will do that for the foreseeable.

I'm not usually ill for very long so this is pissing me off!! I guess not getting sleep isn't helping my recovery.

We all have it as well and it's brutal. Takes weeks to shift and it's exhausting. DC 1 has been coughing for 3 weeks and had flu for a week. DC2 has been off school for a week and still isn't better with sickness, cold, sinus pain. Now I have it and its hell.

Can't sleep for coughing, feel like I have flu and my sinuses hurt hell. I could do with a week off work but I have staff dropping like flies and work mounting.

Hot drinks and rest they say. Tell that to my workplace and family. I hope you're feeling better soon. It's a horrible virus this year.

merrymelodies · 29/11/2022 06:04

Children here are going down with the flu, Covid and RSV. Wait times at the local children's hospital can be as long as 10 hours and there aren't enough beds. Not enough doctors or nurses either. It's hell.

greenacrylicpaint · 29/11/2022 06:08

did you do a covid test?
it's rampant at dc school. again.

but yes, other nasty viruses are around as well. flu and as pp mention rsv.

whish you all a speedy recovery!

Hellishvirus · 29/11/2022 08:15

@IamSamantha sounds just like us, horrible isn't it? Youngest also had sickness, and ended up with dry nappies for a whole day.
DH just got up and got ready for work and said "they're well enough for school /nursery aren't they?" No, they blooming aren't, so I guess I'm looking after 2 sick children while sick myself all day today again... I'd love to just have hot drinks and rest!

@merrymelodies that's so bad, I am grateful my youngest has pulled through without needing the hospital, definitely going to wait to send them back into the world to make sure they don't catch something else while still poorly.

@greenacrylicpaint thank you! I do have a test actually, will give it a go, pretty sure it's a dreadful RSV though based on my youngest.

Eldest DS actually had the flu jab on Saturday, could the fever be caused by that or would it have happened shortly after? (Rather than 48 hours later?)

Billythebear · 29/11/2022 08:27

@Hellishvirus you have my sympathy, we are in the same boat. Awful cough and cold now turned into an ear infection.
We are now 10 days in and finally got antibiotics yesterday so praying for a quick recovery now!

IHeartGeneHunt · 29/11/2022 08:34

I've had it since Thursday and now it's turned into some horrible chest thing. Couldn't sleep because my lungs were making so much noise! I'm on my way to the walk in centre feeling like patient zero in a zombie film.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/11/2022 13:22

I've had it for just over a week now. Slightly better than I was. You have my sympathy OP.

Hellishvirus · 29/11/2022 13:43

Eldest DS is pretty bad, he keeps spiking a temperature if I'm just a few minutes late topping up the calpol. He is burning hot but shivering, was mumbling weird things and crying whilst he had a nap. Seems more like flu for him as he doesn't seem to have a sore throat or anything. I can't believe DH was going to send him to school this morning...

I am feeling even worse today, with tonsillitis symptoms now. Tonsils are swollen with white spots and I feel nauseous.

Youngest DS is finally eating as normal, but still very quiet and not quite himself.

So sorry everyone else is suffering let's hope we get better soon!

Oh forgot to add, I did take a covid test and it was negative.

anormalperson · 29/11/2022 13:49

You have my sympathy OP. House of illness here too, dd and ds have been vomiting but just nausea/ headaches on top of the respiratory sypmtoms for DH and I. Awful viruses going round atm. Over a week here and only the smallest improvement each day. Hope everyone feels better soon!

Squirrelsnut · 29/11/2022 13:52

OP, I hear you and I feel your pain! What a perfect storm of crap to have to deal with, you poor love.
I work in a school and it is virus central. People getting rotten bugs the minute they recover from another one. My son is coughing his guts up with a fractured rib to contend with too (he's 15 though). It does seem to be worse this year, and the bugs are nastier.

Hellishvirus · 29/11/2022 15:29

Ah thank you so much for the sympathy, feeling less lonely after 5 days of only seeing these four walls and two poorly children!

Yes improvements are so slow @anormalperson . DH and I were trying to reassure ourselves everyday that youngest DS was getting better, but it was something like 2% improvement per day!
