tips for CV for radically different job

StillRunningWithScissors · 28/11/2022 18:36

Looking to apply for a job that is very different from what I trained and have worked in up until having DC.

The job isn't one that requires qualifications, more positive attitude/people skills etc. It's at a place similar to a leisure/activity centre.

Application requests CV and cover letter.

Any idea where I start to try to rewrite my CV to fit? Any web sites etc you'd suggest?

Thank you!

Try this uk.indeed.com/career-advice/cvs-cover-letters/functional-cv
use the functional approach using headings from the person spec/ jd

Start with the job description.

The recruiter should be able to go through your CV and tick off every/the majority of bullet points on the JD. The easier this is to do and the more a match the CV is to the JD the more likely you are to get through to then next stage.

So if they say they want experience of managing a team.

You will make sure that under your current or last role you have something that says

  • successfully managed a team of 12 to exceed KPIs and behavioural expectations to company core values. Duties included; work allocation, performance management, training, mentoring.....

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime @thesandwich thank you both, this should give me a really good start (and starting is often the hardest bit). I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

In you covering letter discuss why you want to move industries and how your skills can be applied in the new industry, what you like about the company your applying to and how your aspirations align with the role you are applying for.
