Blogging/Website (hobby based)

Not sure where to post this, so posting in chat.

Does anyone have their own blog/website that is hobby based/not for profit?

I enjoy creativity and writing but don't enjoy performing (not yet at any rate). One mode of expression and a way of perhaps becoming more visible could be through displaying my work via a website. I'm not looking for any financial gain, this is purely a platform to display my work (and I would want to keep it low cost). I have a relative who is good at web design who would likely help me out with the technical aspects of this.

I (currently) struggle to share my work and this would be a bold step for me. There is a critical voice internally, saying that my work would be mocked/not good enough or why bother sharing it, so it would be a big step to take and I suppose a way for me to try and change my avoidance tendencies. I'm not interested in driving traffic to the site (though I would probably direct people I know to it if they showed an interest).

I would be interested in hearing how this has worked out for you, if you have gone ahead and done this kind of thing.

Hi OP!

I do have a bit of experience with this, similar to you I decided to create a blog/website where I could share musings etc. I found YouTube to be helpful as there’s so many tutorials on there as to how to set up a website. I found one tutorial about Wordpress and blue host and I’ve never done it before and found it very easy. Previous to this I did have a company set up my website for business purposes but in all honesty I preferred to do it myself. All the best.

You mentioned performing/displaying. What sort of work are you hoping to share? I'm asking because there might be better channels than a website.
I also have a WordPress website and it was very easy to set up and maintain.

Just seen your user name. Grin If it's furniture restoration/upcycling then you could set up a website but tbh Instagram would probably be just as good if not better as you could connect with people via hashtags etc. That goes for any visual medium.
