Would you eat this?

Frozen gluten free chicken Kiev date is 30/09/2022. Been in freezer for over a year. Would you risk it? Or not? If it was end October I wouldn’t hesitate.

No energy to cook as currently have walking pneumonia but that’s a whole other story so just want something easy. Just don’t want to end up with the runs either on top of everything else.

TIA

Should be fine though probably won't taste of much and might be dried out. The quality deteriorates the longer it's in the freezer. Just cook it well

AutumnCrow · 28/11/2022 14:16

I'd eat it, and I'm immune suppressed. I have quite low standards tbf.

Agree with pp - cook it slow and long. Make sure it's as hot as the sun inside.

FurAndFeathers · 28/11/2022 14:17

Yes
for peace of mind is it a BB or a use by date ?

Yes I'd eat it. I probably wouldn't have even checked date BlushGrin

MissMarpleRocks · 28/11/2022 14:18

Perfect thank you.

Also immunosuppressed - usually it wouldn’t stop me but this pneumonia has worn me down & making me question what I’d normally do.

2 lots of antibiotics & still hanging around!

I agree with @over50andfab it's very very very unlikely to be of any danger, we eat things that are years out of date regularly, whether they are actually edible is a different question.

Use by. I’m sure I’ve had it more than a year 🤣

Get well soon, @MissMarpleRocks Flowers I hope our culinary advice isn't going to finish you off.

heldinadream · 28/11/2022 14:25

I found a gluten-free Christmas pudding in the back of the cupboard yesterday dated...........June 2011!
Looks fine. Fully intending to eat it.

Would not hesitate to eat your chicken Kiev.
Typing that - I presume chicken Kiev has some relationship to the place? Eat it in their honour OP.
Hope you're better ASAP. Who knows, chicken is so good for those sort of illnesses, it might even cure you! 😁

MissMarpleRocks · 28/11/2022 14:41

Thank you for advice & good wishes.

I’m always one for eating out of date stuff by generally sniffing it. Can’t do that with something frozen 😁

Absolutely I would. It will be fine

Without a second thought, I’d have no idea it was past its best before date either, don’t think I’ve ever worried about dates on things in the freezer - or even looked tbh!
Get well soon 💐

I didn't see the deleted message either. Often they're spam i.e. badly concealed advertising or love gurus.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 28/11/2022 16:03

It’ll be absolutely fine to eat. Might have deteriorated slightly in flavour/texture, but no risk involved.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 28/11/2022 16:04

Also, I hope you feel better soon!

MissMarpleRocks · 28/11/2022 18:32

Thank you

it’s in the oven for an extra 10 minutes so will see 🤞🤞
