Question about Nintendo switch

DS has a Nintendo switch lite and has asked for the joy cons for Christmas. How do they work? I’ve been looking online but still don’t understand. Would I need to buy anything extra? Sorry if I sound daft and don’t make sense I’m not clued up on all this kind of stuff!

And would they even work with the lite

Joy-cons are just an extra controller. Yes you can pair them to a Switch lite. Seems a bit pointless though, as the Switch lite is handheld, what’s he planning to do with the joy-cons? Prop the Lite up on a book or something?

@Fluffygreenslippers I have no idea! He’s just asked for them. Might not bother then. Thank you!

They are more designed for use with a switch than a lite. The switch can be docked and used as any other console hooked up to the tv, or played in handheld mode. The lite is designed as a soley handheld device.

They will work with the switch lite, however you would need to look at getting some kind of charger for them as they won’t be able to charge of the switch lite.

This article explains it well www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/how-to-connect-joy-cons-to-the-nintendo-switch-lite/

Does he want to be able to play 2 player games on his lite? That would be a reason to get extra controllers.

you can pair them with lite, but would need a charger as pp said

FoxyBloxy · 28/11/2022 09:28

@ElfDragon He said he wants them so I can play with him. He has Mario Olympics game and Mario kart and he said you can play 2 players

With the Lite you can't play it on the TV like the normal Switch so 2 player is very difficult.
You'd both need to be looking at his screen which would be very difficult if he were holding it, you could prop it up somehow but then you'd need a set of joycons each

If he wants them to play with you I’d look into maybe getting something like a powerA controller or another knockoff. They’re half the price and work just as well as the switch joycons.

@SunflowerSmith That makes sense! I understand now😂

Thanks everyone
