Does anyone have this recurring dream?

I have a recurring dream/nightmare that I'm home alone, I want to go to bed but the back door won't lock. I keep turning the key but it just won't lock. Sometimes the door comes away completely or it doesn't fit, there are gaps and I'm trying to get the lock to slot in place.

Sometimes there's an intruder trying to get in and I'm desperately trying to lock the door.

At my last house the lock on the back door was a bit dodgy. The lock is actually broken in the house I live in too but there are two other locks and a conservatory so we haven't bothered fixing it yet. So perhaps it's as simple as that, or maybe my dream has another meaning.

The easiest answer would seem to be the obvious onem which would be to get the lock fixed, and then see whether the nightmares continue.

What's an onem? I meant 'one'.

I used to have this dream, almost the same

BearSoFair · 27/11/2022 21:17

I used to. I'd be on the tube to work, running a bit late, and when I got off I could never get up the escalator. I could sprint and push forward as hard as I could, stand still and try to ride up normally, it was like there was a forcefield stopping me from getting into the ticket hall. I could go back down to the platform as much as I wanted. It had to be a stress thing because I've not had it once since changing job!

BearSoFair · 27/11/2022 21:18

Oops, misread title, I thought it said 'a' recurring dream not 'this' Blush sorry!

You can read so much into dreams, I love that too, and I have a book about dreams. But the answer is clear for you, imo. You need to get lock fixed. It's playing on your mind.

A classic anxiety dream! Perhaps you could do a bit of a Jungian analysis...

The symbolism could represent a number of things -- fear of being "seen" or being vulnerable? The back door specifically might represent hidden parts of your psyche and you fear someone seeing the real you. Front door might be different as it's the side you show to the world.

Feeling vulnerable, threatened, unable to relax for some reason.

Or it's literally just a load of neurological junk and it is what it is -- anxiety about the back door being unlocked.

(Personally, I do believe in deeper meanings to dreams but I don't believe in one size fits all, "dream dictionary" kind of things)!

My anxiety dream is always bathroom-related.

It just sounds like anxiety fixating on the lock. When I’m stressed I have dreams where I’m trying to dial a number on an old rotary telephone and the dial keeps slipping and I have to start again dialling the number each time!

hoipolloih · 27/11/2022 21:26

I don't know why I've got a line through most of my post! Perhaps because it's a load of old shit 🥲

Jerrythejam · 27/11/2022 21:31

@postcardpuffin i have this dream but on a mobile phone, it’s always when there’s an emergency. Hate it!

You want closure on an issue before you can rest.

I do love dreams.

tocahairchop · 27/11/2022 22:22

I love dreams too...my dh thinks listening to what someone else has dreamt is the dullest thing but I find it fascinating! I have a recurring one where I'm on a plane and there's some kind of emergency...not a full on crash but trouble landing or like last night's one where the plane falls suddenly a few thousand feet 😳 What does that mean I wonder??

EatingWormsMichael · 27/11/2022 22:47

You feel an area of your life is out of control @tocahairchop and you crave stability.
