Weight gain on mirtazapine, anyone else?

I couldn't work out why I was gaining weight but I changed my ADs to mirtazapine about 6 weeks. Has anyone else gained weight on these? I'm not eating anymore or anything different to before I was on them but I'm consistently gaining weight, it's awful. I've been on citalopram and sertaline in the past bit didn't gain weight on either of these. I'm so paranoid people will comment on it.

I'm sad to inform you that I gained 3 stone in 6 months! ( It's such a appetite stimulant) However this drug literally saved my life and I don't regret using it for the dark period in my life. Once I no longer needed it it took around a year to get back to my previous weight

Thankyou, that confirms it for me then! Problem is if I keep gaining weight this will only add to my low mood! I'm going to see if I can switch to a different AD. Fluxoteine apparently helps with weight loss compared to other ADs. Sorry I probably sound extremely shallow but i need to get this right.

I’d flat out refuse an antidepressants that caused weight gain to that extent! They’d just make me more depressed! Ask about alternatives

Yes, weight gain happened to me when I was on it too!! I can sympathise with you. My advice would be to go back to the gp, see what your options are and get put on a different med. I hope you're okay!

I put on almost 3 stone but it saved my life. I started using the gym after being prescribed mitazipine which helped with the weight gain and my mental and physical health.
It also helped my sleep (in lower doses).

Thank you. It's actually a relief to have realised there's a reason behind my weight gain and hopefully I can reverse it.
