DS 16 wants to 'make his room nice' - any cool ideas?

For Christmas my 16 yr old son said he wants to 'make his room nice' and I don't know where to start! He said 'maybe some LED lights' but I bought him some cheapos from Amazon once and they fell down and were crap.

He's a regular teen, into gaming with his friends, rugby, etc.

If anyone has any ideas of cool things for a teen boy's bedroom, I'd be v grateful as interior design is not my thing!

Think cool hotel room rather than boys bedroom he will soon be fairly adult.
Led lights
Framed pictures
Nice rug
Storage

Also clueless at interior design stuff so I usually head to Pinterest for inspiration.

Tidy clutter, better storage. Cool lights.

My son has framed pictures of gaming posters.

My DS is a bit younger, he has his bedroom walls painted in bold colours... one red the other 3 sky blue.

He's into motorbikes so has a framed poster on the wall.
He has plenty of storage & desk under his high sleeper...
So we made him a gaming/ friends/ hang out corner with TV on the opposite wall & 2 Z fold chair beds (one double & a single) for sleepovers.

Mine is a skateboard plus loves street wesr. Got some magazinrs and plastered his walls. Looks good

it depends on how big your budget is really. Mine got Phillips Hue lights at that sort of age for his room. Quite a big upfront cost but still in use 7 years later and can easily be moved to flats etc.

Pinterest is your friend!

Search teenage boy bedrooms and have a look at the results with your son.

At this age I would play on the comfy vibe- huge , comfy beanbag, blackout curtains, led lights along the ceiling edges, mini fridge etc.

Framed posters - favourite movies/games/sports - Ikea do a black frame that is quite good

It has to come from your son though, it's his space. Good luck.

We stayed quite neutral-warm neutral, in our last bedroom redecorate, aware he'd leave soon, but we chose a dramatic colour for the alcove where his desk was. We used dark curtains. The usual led effects as well. He was very pleased.

You can get some very funky lighting - LED doesn't have to be colour-changing striplights. For example in our house (no teenagers!) we have two different pacman ghost lamps, a pacman lamp, a PS4 (?) symbols lamp, and a tetris lamp that gets rebuilt every few days into a different layout.

A sunset lamp? www.officialsunsetlamp.co.uk cool lighting for when he’s hanging out there. Does he watch films / game? If he has a big clear wall you could get a roll-down projector screen so he can cast things from a laptop/tablet.
